Hoxie's second game of the season found 3A Hoxie matched up with 6A Marion.

The games took place at Hoxie's un-air-conditioned gym and man was it HOT The few fans in the gymnasium didn't put a dint in the heat, but both teams took it in stride.

Hoxie's Junior High team added another "W" to their record by toping the Lady Patriots of Marion 25-12 and 25-16

Hoxie's Senior High was outdone by the Patriots in just about every category. The Patriot's size was more than the Mustangs could handle.

Marion wins the match 25-17 25-16 25-15

Both Junior and Senior Lady Mustangs win big over Trumann's Lady Wildcats

Trumann traveled to Hoxie only to meet up with some determined bunch of Mustangs. Hoxie's Junior High team kept their season record perfect by sweeping Trumann.

Hoxie's Senior High team came out and worked their tails off. Coach Goodwin made the comment to the ladies that at no time since the State Runner up team of 2001 has she seen such team work.

Scores were 25-14, 25-23 and 25-21

Sorry for the delay on posting outcomes of recent games with the Lady Mustangs. I went through an almost serious meltdown of my computer system. All is well now and no files were lost.

No scores to report on the Hoxie/Harrisburg Junior High game other than the Junior Lady Mustangs continue their winning ways. The Mustangs swept the Lady Hornets and won the match

Senior Ashley Ramsey wasn't able to play in the senior games against Harrisburg because of being in a horse riding accident over the weekend. After a very close call, she'll heal, and I think she'll be back to playing in a week or so.

The Senior High game was one of the better matches I have seen in High School volleyball. However, it would have been even better if the Lady Mustangs would have been able to hold on for the win.

Sophomores have been key for the Mustangs this season and this game was no different. These young girls are being asked to fill some very big shoes and are doing a fantastic job when asked!

Scores were....26-28, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, and 13-15

Great job ladies...keep up the hard work!!!

Hoxie plays in the Trumann Invitational

Hoxie wins over West Memphis Lady Blue Devils as well as The Batesville Lady Pioneers, but are put out of the tournament by Trumann's Lady Wildcats.

All in all it was a good day of volleyball for the Ladies in green nearsports/clap.gif

No bottles were thrown, no gang wars broke out, and no one was mugged while in the parking lot...

In other words...the rivalry between Walnut Ridge and Hoxie isn't dangerous, it is a rivalry.

Cheers from both sides of the gym...nothing wrong with that.

Bad calls from the ump? Yes he once coached at Walnut Ridge, but he also coached at Hoxie...so who better for the job?

In Senior action, Hoxie's girls won the first set, then lost the next two. But Coach Judy, (a Walnut Ridge alum) put a fire under the feet of the lady Mustangs. She said during one of the sets, "Y'all don't even care if you lose to Walnut Ridge do you ?"

Nothing out of the ordinary happened in a setting so many have grown so fond of. Yet some wish the destroy the competitive spirit of our two communities. Games between the two schools...anything can happen, and it usually does.

I would just like to say that I have family and friends at walnut ridge and hoxie and I think it is a shame that one person can ruin such a great rivalry ALOT of these kids are enemies during the game and friends after I hate to see these kids deprived of such a great tradition these games will be greatly missed.....GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS!!!!!!

Despite the trip of nearly 40 miles though through hills and curves, Hoxie pulled out another win for the record books. Not anything pretty by any means, but a win none the less. The Lady Mustangs were plagued with missed serves, bad passes and a general case of having one's head up a particular part of the body. nearsports/blush.gif

However the Lady Mustangs were able to win the match in three games. nearsports/clap.gif

Team work and the general closeness of these girls is what is allowing them to pull through some tough times and win close games. All I can say is keep working.

25-19 and 25-8 were the scores as Hoxie's Junior Lady Mustangs took on Cedar Ridge. The young Timberwolves are a much improved bunch. In a couple more years these young ladies will spell trouble for those who take them lightly now.

This afternoon, Hoxie played host to the Lady Mohawks of Piggott. The Hoxie Junior Ladies started off rather sluggish, but came roaring back in the first game. The determined Mohawks held off Hoxie and finished on top in the first game by a score of 22-25. Hoxie's Coach Goodwin game words of encouragement during the huddle between games. Hoxie came back with a vengeance and won the second game by the score of 25-16. The final game was the most exciting of all three. The teams exchanged point for point, but the momentum was in the favor of the Junior Lady Mustangs. Hoxie held on for a huge victory over a feisty bunch from Piggott. Final score was 25-20.

Hoxie's Senior Mustangs were no match for Piggott in the first game of the match. Hoxie lost the first game by a score of 11-25. 23-25 and 22-25 were the scores of the final two games. Hoxie played a quiet a bit better the last two games, but the Lady Mohawks were always just a little bit ahead.

Keep working hard ladies....it'll pay off in the end. nearsports/clap.gif

Hoxie hosts Harrisburg on the 20th.
