As was the case last season, my plans are to continue to take pictures of Hoxie's Mustangs in various sporting events. Late afternoon on August 8th the Mustangs were found going over drills and plays. I will do all in my power not to allow too much to be seen before the season starts. In doing so I hope it works to build enthusiasm among players and added anticipation among fans.

Enjoy the clips this season! Mustangs Practice

Nice preview....can't wait to see the mean green at upcoming jamboree.

Attended yesterday's (8-13-08) practice and things seem to be coming along nicely. Was the first time I've seen both quarterbacks in action. From what I've seen so far, any past reference to the Mustangs will need to be altered considerably. Hoxie's offense should be able to come at opponents from just about every angle.

Keep up the hard work!

Defensive lineman for Hoxie is better than average and huge, but he will need some work before he goes to Texas...at the jamboree he was out of breathe during the first series..

The QB for Hoxie is one of the best athletes on offense or defense...

Hoxie will have to improve greatly to play with Earle!!!!

Hoxie made the trip to Paragould on 8-25-08 to take on the Rams in a scrimmage game. This was Hoxie's first -*test*-('") against another team at full speed with pads and I believe they did very well. Offensive linemen Jacob Wigton 5'10 255 twisted a knee in the first half and was unable to play much of the con-*test*-('").

Hoxie still has some things to work on, but are where they need to be at this point in the pre-season. The running game was effective against Paragould and Hart's maneuverability and ability to pass on the go looks very promising. It showed a side of Hoxie's game not seen on a regular basis in the past, but one that should and will be used very effectively this year. Running backs Cook, Waldrupe and Middlecoff along with QB Hart all looked at ease against the Rams. There is a real threat of any of these four to run with the ball.

While I thought it was there, anyone now knows Hoxie has real depth in the running attack. Hoxie's #2 offense looked really good last night with Crisler taking snaps. Sophomore Thomas Witt 5'7 188 and Junior Blake Snow 5'9 183 show they can be used when needed. Scrimmages such as these give every player time on the field and bit more experience before the real season starts.

I'm very pleased with how the Mustangs look at this point. I think I can say with out a doubt....Hoxie fans are in for a lot of good football in 2008!!!

Hoxie will have a tough time passing against any teams that have speed. Hoxie has a nice quarterback, but he doesnt have the speed to roll out and pass against teams with any kind of quickness. Anybody can pass and receive if there is no pressure. I suspect the receivers will have a hard time running routes with a quick db in their presence.

I look forward to the matchup with Earle at Hoxie this year!!

topdog,

It is common practice by the coaching staff at Hoxie not to show their hand during any scrimmage games...you never know who might be watching. wink.gif

However if you'd like a copy of the game video to study closer I think I can get you a copy at a price you can't resist. cool.gif

Thanks Pix..If they didn't show their hand they showed a lot of it. They lined up in about 10 different formations.... If they have more then all the power. I don't need a tape I have every formation and play that they ran. If you want to put a link on this site that would be great.

I like the 1st quarterback and a few of the lineman aren't bad. I dont understand why the Texas recruit only plays defense and not offense. He lines up on defense in an offensive lineman stance?

I don't believe Hoxie has plans to post their game film available online. If they do I'll do what get that information to you ASAP... laugh.gif

Derek isn't the only player going one direction. It isn't because players can't play both sides of the ball...but it is an effort to have as many fresh players on the field as possible. That comes in handy during the second half of a ballgame.

As to the reasons why Derek stands more like one from the O-Line than the D-Line...you'd have to ask one of the defense coaches. I'd only be guessing if I gave reasons why. However...I wouldn't want him to change a thing nearsports/mdr.gif

A lot of DL line up like that to bull rush the O-lineman. They use the free arm to get under the O-lineman with a lot of force and keeps the lineman off of him so that he can manipulate the O-lineman as he reads the play. It's used a lot by DL for pass rush for added momentum and force.
