Which team will come out on top?

mustang- 01-28-2008
I voted with my heart,BIC.Trevor & Chad will be a good 1-2 (any order) but both need good defense behind them. I think it boils down to under classmen this year, the youngsters have got to step up.Runs will be hard to come by,we will have to manufacture them. I do not see a dominate team, but Marked Tree & R'side will be pretty good. Then I'd say its open after that.

Hey game10

I know you keep up with alot of the baseball teams. What's your thoughts on this topic?

I think its wide open myself. Most teams will have to depend on their underclassmen
don't you think?

It's going to be a toss up, as there really isn't a clear cut favorite.

I would say that most of the teams, other than Riverside, lost their top 1-2 players. Riverside still has Weaver, Blake Hogan, and hopefully Richardson. BIC lost Phillips, Qualls, AND Coach Rhoades. Matheny and Williams will most likely be the best 1-2 punch on the mound, but from what I've heard, the players haven't been able to do anything until basketball season is over. The real deciding factor for this conference will be who can score the most runs. Never count out Marked Tree, but they lost Will Ruthven. Cross County is a weird bunch, as you never know what kind of team they are going to put out onto the field. Bay lost Bollinger and the Griffin kids, who really led them last year. I don't know much about Rector and CRA.

The quality of baseball in this conference is going to be REALLY down this year. I really don't expect any of the teams to have a winning record outside of conference play.

I couldn't have said it any better. You nailed it.

The problem with these basketball crazy schools is that most, if not all, won't allow their dual-sport athletes to prepare for the baseball season at all until the last whistle of basketball. No throwing, no hitting, no nothing...

You can't develop a baseball program the right way if that is the case.

CRA has had four practices and is looking pretty good not great just decent...

Basketball crazy is what it is. These kids start practice about August the 18th or 20th every year and play til Feb. 20th. Thats nuts. Folks, we play frigged basketball for 6 months up in here. Thats to much for any high school sport. And the coaches, and some parents don't want to hear it, but most of these kids get burned out and are sick of it by February. And its every day, and usually a Sunday afternoon practice thrown in there.

There has to be a balance between all sport's. I think that is why Earle and a few other football school's have an advantage late in the basktetball season. Baseball still is considered by most to be a summer sport. I actually like high school bseball but it never will come close to being in the same league as high school football or basketball.

Maybe because the season has to be crunched down to a month and a half, with half of the games being postponed or cancelled due to weather...

That plays a part in it but baseball is just not as popular until you get to the MLB level.

mustang- 02-12-2008
Well this the earliest BIC has gotten to start practicing in years.maybe they can get tuned in and knock some people off early. Since our high school court days are over I'm ready to hit the diamond & see how it goes.
Good Luck Mustangs !!

Well i dont know if yalls conference can compete with us. Yall always have the good basketball teams, and we always have the good baseball teams. Just like last years regional tourny.

That's not true.

I don't necessarily believe that either.

I'm willing to bet that most kids around here love baseball until they start getting basketball crammed down their throats, but that's just my personal observation.

I don't agree with this statement at all.

Before Walnut Ridge moved over, I would put the teams that have come out of WR, BIC, Bay, Marked Tree, and at one time Riverside ahead of the other conference.

Wanna compare a list of players? I'll put up a starting 9 from those teams from the past 5-6 years up against any that you will come up with from your side.

powerhouse- 02-12-2008
Well im not too sure on who has won regionals in the past 5 years, but last year it was Tuckerman, the year before that it was Cave City. But before that i am not sure who won it. Do you know?
