Are there any schools that don't offer 5th or 6th grade basketball? Pocahontas doesn't offer it and it seams that we are the only school in our area that doesn't. I have heard that we are to big but Westside, Valley View and Nettleton don't have any problems. I've heard that we will not have any one to play Walnut Ridge, Hoxie, Sloan Hendrix, Twin Rivers or any of the Jonesboro schools listed above and I could go on with the list. I just wanted to know if Pocahontas was the only school that didn't offer it.

blytheville does not offer elementary ball, they do have the upward bound program through the first baptist church, but that leaves out a ton of kids.

Blytheville does have intrumural teams or used to. Truman also does the intrumural thing. That is more popular with school's 4A and larger.

There is another thread on here congratulating the pokey 5th grade girls. Do they not have boys?

NutRidge- 02-17-2008
Pokey kids have intramurals and several all-star teams. Walnut Ridge 6th grade girls beat Pokey 6th girls in the Randolph County Tournament finals yesterday nearsports/0c4fae0e.gif

And yes they had boys. 2 5th boys and a 6th boys.

The reason that I congratulated the Pokey 5th grade girls is because the is the team my child plays for. I wasn't sure how the other teams fared that day. Just a proud parent congratulating her child and her entire team.

So Pokey does have intramural elem. basketball. If your a big enough school to have intramural sports, stick with that.

Pokeyfan- 02-17-2008
The city actually has the intramural league. It has no affiliation with the school at all. There are 10 girls teams and 10 boys teams. They play each other twice each season and then have an end of the season tournament. The tournament that was described earlier in the thread is an all-star tournament that anyone can enter except for AAU teams/players. It's a good program. Very proud of it.

Walnut Ridge is a school team, Pocahontas is not. My son plays on the fifth grade boys team that won, but those teams are mainly kids that play in the pee-wee "City" league. The city league has no connections to the school. I would like to see Pocahontas have basketball through the school at these ages.

If you are big enough school, you can do both. Ypu can either play the league early and then pick a travel team, or you can pick a travel team and let the remainder of the kids play league. Having a second travel team later.

There are also kids from surrounding areas that participate in the Pokey city league. (Maynard, Sloan-Hendrix, Hillcrest etc.)

So is Pocahontas the only school in the area that does not have a "school" team?
