I was kind of surprised at a few of the results yesterday. Most of them were typical, who you would expect...but there were a few surprises. For example, Stuttgart got Grand Champion (I think) against Benton (Jr. High)...to the best of my knowledge, both of these teams were in the same category for Grand awards. Seriously...Benton had like 6 fulls and double downs in stunts and girls from Stuttgart were falling on their faces in standing handsprings. It was complete tragic-ness in comparison with Benton. Maybe they were showing some more spirit or something...only rationale I can think of. Then Bryant vs. Lakeside for Large Co-Ed 4A to 7A...so Lakeside had a great kick double basket (I know the girl)...Bryant was cleaner. Other than that...there was relatively no competition...you could pick the winner easily. On another note...scholarships this year? Blew my mind. I mean, there were girls with like 3.6 GPAs getting the high scholarships...I'm pretty sure that last year when me and the 2 Nashville girls got scholarships, we all had a 4 point or above. They even said that there were many applicants. You can't tell me that more of the girls that didn't win didn't have a higher gpa. This probably doesn't matter...but just seems a bit strange. Way to go NEAR...representing pretty well for the most part. Took home a few titles...not too shabby. I'm waiting for the day that the NEAR teams go co-ed and start throwing elite skills...and actually compete against the bigger schools. That would be awesome. Will it ever happen? Also...props to my man Jake Brumley from Benton-Harmony Grove...he so dominated coed stunts without even trying...the guy can throw full-ups, double downs, and rewinds without even trying. Crazy ridiculous. He's a junior, and we are already hardcore recruiting him for UCA. He's showing off that CCU pride. Well, those are my opinions from state...but I am kind of a hard critic as well...still not bad representation from NEAR at all.

i agree with the divisions and stuff, but. these comp. are judged on past performances. dont care what you say. to many times squads stick all their stunts and dance and still lose to a squad who drop a stunt. dont say it doesn't happen because i've seen it. for instance, in hot springs a few years ago when it snowed. one area squad blew the crowd away. everyone in the crowd from other places were talking about how they won hands down. every other squad dropped somebody. and one of the squads that dropped a stunt won. these kids were devastated. people from other towns booed the judges. this is just one instance that it happened. look at the jr high this weekend, there were more than three teams in that division that didnt mess up. but a squad that had 1 group that didnt go up until half way through the comp. still placed. explain that. that is crap. ive seen this happen a bunch at these things. im not picking on this any particular squad. i know these kids work extremely hard and love what they do. im saying the judging is not done fairly.

theres no need to name names. these kids are proud of their accomplishments. theres no need in dragging this through the mud. my point is, these comp. are purely personal opinion. i feel sorry for these girls who work so hard and end up disappointed when they dont understand why they didn't win. especially when other squads drop people and still win. sad to say, i know there isnt a better way to judge this stuff
