I was told by a college coach just yesterday that he would be making the trip to talk to Dean from Newport in hopes of getting him for a visit on their campus.

He said that he was playing in the All-Star game. I didn't see his name on the roster though. Just checking to see if maybe there were more that are on the roster that aren't actually listed.

MikeDiesel- 04-19-2008
There is definitely a chance that he is on the team. Some of these may have backed out or something. I don't see the official list on the AAA website.

According to the ol' reliable Jonesboro Sun he has been selected to participate in this years all-star game. I checked into that after I posted and that was where that coach must have found that info or something.

in the boys buts, there were better players on the best of the rest than on the the buts team. to me u have to get to post season play (state tourney) to be recognized for the top post season awards.

I don't agree simply for the fact that the best player in the area might have a horrible team to play on. And in the larger classes, it definitely takes more than one player to get to postseason usually.

I do, in my very unbiased opinion, wink.gif think that Whiquita Tobar should have been the BUTS female player of the year. But, the Madden girl isn't bad either. Oh, and Tobar should have won it last season also.

oldguy_21- 05-12-2008
The BUTS team is biased to Jonesboro area teams just like the democrat all-arkansas teams are biased to central arkansas. It's just one of those things that is going to happen.

Rebel04- 05-12-2008
i think garrett weaver should have been buts

leroyhawg- 05-13-2008
You are talking about Jordan Weaver of Wynne right??

Averaged 14.6 pts and 7.8 rebs as a sophomore in the AAAAA East, I think that should be good enough. However, if you are only going to look at numbers (which is what the BUTS team is all about) he didn't average as much as some of the others that were one men shows. I think the team was pretty good.

theanswer34- 05-13-2008
i think it is wierd how josh calamese can make 3rd team all arkansas (democrate) and not even make the buts team. i just think if ur team has success u should be rewarded. i am biased b/c i am a tech fan but i think wes livingston should have been on the team. he avg. 14 ppg 7rpg and 2.5spg while leading them to the state finals in what was supposed to be a down year. i think jordan weaver and jalynn mitchell should be on the first team also. i dont see how u put a kid on the first team who didnt even make the regional tournament and a kid whose team won a total of 5 games. just my opinion but the kids in the 5a east had to put up numbers against the best competition in the state night in and night out.

honestly, it's picks like that that are made to say "look at the list of great players that I put together and called it my list."

I didn't see a lot of NEA hoops this year, simply because the NEA Tourn is not even worth coming home to anymore and Central AR had some good hoops this year to keep me occupied. I have seen some players that I was extremely impressed with and Livingston is one of them. He is so fundamentally sound, beautiful shot from anywhere you need it, great hands, good passer, rebounds well, and is consistent game to game. His Dad has taught him well! He was a great Coach himself. I was shocked beyond belief to see Tech back in the finals after losing what was thought to be everyone last season! Livingston was a big part of that and people will get to see it this coming season once again.
I would love to see him in a UCA jersey in the future, but we don't recruit good moral kids here so I will be willing to drive.
