This should be a very interesting week of play in the EYAA Inner City League. While many teams are battling for tournament seeding the Number 1 seeds have already been determined in both divisions with the J. W. Tigers in Division 1 taking the number one spot with a 6-2 record, Division 2 is sowed up by the Disciples of Faith Ballers with their perfect 6-0 record. J. W. Tigers will take the final week off as a bye-week awaiting their second round opponent which will be the winner of first round showdown between 5th Seed and the 4th Seed. Interesting thing about the J. W. Tigers and their dominance of Division 1 is that Head Coach Robert Brooks and Assistant Coach Bonnie Wilson have three young ladies in his starting line-up (Front Runner for League MVP Andrea Allen, Janea Bowers and Kierea Mckenzie) while most other teams have majority boys in their starting line-ups. The Disciples of Faith Ballers have been dominant in every aspect of the game since the season opener. Head Coach Detrick Reeves and Assistant Coach Marvin Halk have managed to keep a very talented team focused and disciplined on and off the court. The Ballers have excellent ball handlers in the presence of League Allstars Falion Barnet and Keitheric Elliot plus a strong inside presence with "The Future" Tyqareus Hinton, coupled with superb coaching strategies and stlye, the Ballers are "Strickly Business." This season has beyond any doubt been the most competitive. And the Ballers will have to play extremely tough to maintain their undefeated record this weekend in a double game situation facing a Hungry J. W. A. Eagles team and a Thirsty N. B. Bulls team in their season finale.

An Action Packed Saturday…….
GAME DAY—4/26/08
The players were at the gymnasium bright and early for the games on this particular Saturday. It would prove to be just as exciting as any game day before…
Game I:
The first game was an equivalent match-up between the Warriors and the Tigers. Kierra McKenzie and Charles Chase began the game with the tip-off, with Andrea Allen scoring the opening two points for the Tigers. The players seemed to be over the anxiety that plagued them in the beginning of the season. It was a perfect match of talent and spirit between these two teams as each player’s effort was evenly matched by the skill of their opponent as the first quarter ended with a 7-4 lead for the Tigers. Other players who scored in this game were McKenzie, Chase, Billy Murray, Bjorn Warren, and William Kelly. In the end, the Tigers proved victorious with the win. After the game, the players were all smiles congratulating one another for their teamwork and positive attitudes.
Game II:
The next game proved to be more vibrant than the first between two of the association’s
most skilled teams from division two. This game provided the continuation of energy necessary to sustain the fans for the remainder of the day’s games. This second game proved to be an action packed one between the All-Stars and the Eagles. Laderious Kimble and Chadd Chase squared for the tip-off. Kimble would prove to be the lead scorer for the All-Stars in the first half as his size and strength served him well on the board with at least 13 of his team’s 17 points to end the first half. Arthur Guess in his quick wit and skill scored 4 points in this half. This game would continue as a nail-biter as each team continued to work both defensively and offensively to answer the victory call. Chase, Guess, Kimble, Darius Dyson, Desmond Dorsey, and Semaj Prierson all scored additional points in this game for their teams. It was a constant battle of evenly matched skill and agility for these two teams as they went into overtime. The Eagles walked away in an exhausted, emotional win, with both teams congratulating one another on their stellar game performance.
Game III:
It was back to two division one teams for the third game: the Bulldogs vs. the Wildcats. This game provided a continuous pace that even the most impatient fan could appreciate with each of the young players calculating their every step. Meoshia Dyson appeared to be growing more confident in her ability as she scored 3 points for the Bulldogs in the first half. These two teams were very diverse in their scoring efforts with points placed on the board by Frederick Williams, Veneshia Price, Shurn Dunn, Dominique Stinnett, Jakiya Warren and Tavarius Sanders.
Game IV:
The Ballers and the Bulls would be the second round of entertainment from division two, for the fourth game as the following players scored for their teams: Raidah Smith, Falon Smith, Keithric Elliot, Chris Rowland, Elijah Dunn, and Tyquerious Hinton. All of these players kept the day’s tradition of teamwork and sheer athletic talent alive as they played to their heart’s content. This game proved to be another stunner as these two teams were equally matched in both talent and wit. After an exhausting battle of skill, the Ballers walked away with a 35-24 victory over the Bulls.
Game V:
Game five would be the second match-up of the day for the Tigers as they took on the noted “rookies”—the Tarheels. These two teams consisted of both rookies and veterans of the league, but it was clearly undetectable in their efforts and stamina during the game.
Clearly heart, talent, agility, and stamina would have to be the stakes for this game as it went into over time. The Tarheels walked away from this game with a 13-12 win over the Tigers. All quarters proved to eventful as both teams struggled to remain steady on the board. The scorers for this game were Andrea Allen, Gerry Bohanon, Lakeith Mckenzie, Larry Allen, and Ryan Johnson.
Good luck guys in the last game and in the Championship!!!!!
