I heard that A.S.U. is adding softball in the near future. Can anyone substantiate this rumor? That would be a good thing!

Rubicon- 03-28-2007

Man I don't know if softball could overpower the heavily favored bowling team!! ASU is a joke when it comes to athletics. Softball would be great, but they might have to spend a dollar on it, so it probably won't happen!!!

I don't know for sure, but right next to the Women's soccer field they are building something. My first thought was when I saw all the dirt and the large area was it was going to be a softball field.

Not saying that there are not some good players around here, but if and when they do start a team I can only think of 4-5 girls in NEAR that could compete on that level...the majority of the team would be JUCO kids or kids from far off...that being said, it would be money well spent and would draw better than any sport other than basketball on the womens side.

i don't know how much softball you get to watch, but there is some very good talent throughout nea. there is definitely more than 4 or 5 girls with the talent to play ball at this level. most of the girls around here just don't get the respect they deserve.

I have contacted the womens athlletic dept and am waiting for a response. I will also be at ASU on Thursday with my daughter doing the touring thing and I will also ask then. When I find out something other than rumor I will post it.

Thanks...

I am not talking down anyone, or not wanting any of these athletes to get shunned, but I just don't see in NEAR HS Fastpitch right now more than 4-5 kids that are D-1 players. So far in this corner of the state we have had 1 kid that has signed a D-1 scholarship for softball...am I wrong? As for the kids...someone give me more than 5 names and I will change my mind.

I agree softball does lag behind in NE Arknasas. If the players were here they would be found. College coaches are in the business of finding the best athletes and they will go any where to find them. Just because you are the best player in any sport at your school (in any sport), that alone does not give you the ability to play at the D-1 level. On the other hand ASU starting softball will help softball in this area. It makes the athletes realize how good they have to be to play at that level. Of course most of the parents already feel the are at that level.

#2's mom- 07-19-2007
I feel like if ASU did have a softball team it would give parents a place to go to show their child the level they need to play to be on a college softball team. Seeing this might encourage the player to work harder to accomplish their dream. Who knows their might even be some players that our children may see as mentors and would be able to see more often because it is closer to home. At least for us.

riksmits- 07-19-2007
That I totally agree with #2's Mom...and I do think that it would be a good idea for ASU to add the sport...No one has given their 5 yet, so I will give my choices that could have a chance to play D-1: Shelby Wise - Nettleton, Jill Graham - Valley View, Bailee Sims - JHS, Karissa Hendrix (sp?) - Highland...that is all that come to mind at this moment and the sad truth is that being from Arkansas will hurt these girls greatly in the recruiting process...
