NEW SITUATION

Team A asst coach is hit with a technical foul. Is this tchnical foul charged directly to the head coach? Can the head coach stand up and coach the rest of the game or is the "seatbelt rule" in effect?

Look forward to your answers.

I'd have to say the violation is only directed to the Assistant Coach. I've personally witnessed an assistant coach being ejected from a game and the head coach going on about his business.

How about this? Team A makes bad pass from top of key towards team B's bench. Team B's coach is hit with ball that's obviously going out of bounds but is standing inbounds picks up ball and throws it to referee out of bounds. Who got the possession of the ball?

Actually, the assistant coach is part of the bench so the T would be an indirect to the head coach and he should be "seatbelted" the rest of the game.

By rule, if the Team B coach is standing inbounds and touches a live ball then he should be assessed a technical foul. There is this little thing called a coaches box that is 12 feet long. It is supposed to be enforced by all officials but it is mostly ignored. Why? Ask some of them. After the 2-shot technical, ball would belong to Team A.

You are absolutely right on this one. How many times have you seen an asst coach or bench persaonnel get hit with a T and the HC is permitted to stand an coach the rest of the game? Not right. He/she should be made to sit the rest of the game.

What is the most points possible in one possession, with just an intentional foul being called?

The answer I come up with is 8. Intentional foul on a made 3 pointer. Plus the free throws. Another 3 on the next poss.

Well if only an intentional foul is called then yes. If more fouls occur, there could be more.

Do you not just get the one shot on the intentional foul on a made shot? That would just add up to 7.

Oh but wait, The coach got mad because he thought it wasn't a intentional, and got two techs on the same possession, so the team also will get more free throws. biggrin.gif

See, but he said there was "just an intentional foul called". I assume that means the coach kept his cool. So, that definitely eliminates a few coaches in this area from the above scenario.

I saw this called in regionals. The lay-up was good, 2 points, 2 made free-throws, and not sure if the basket after was a 2 or 3. I had never thought about this many points in 2 or 3 seconds. It wasn't at the end of the game and the team ahead fouled. Oh and amazingly no technicals.

If Player A is the last to touch the ball inbounds and he goes out of bounds, the ball must be touched by another player before Player A touches the ball.

This is a legal play. Case Book play 7.1.1.Situation D A1 jumps from inbounds to retrieve an errant pass near a boundary line. A1 catches the ball while in the air and tosses it back to the court. A1 lands out of bounds and (a) is the first to touch the ball after returning inbounds; (cool.gif returns inbounds and immediately dribbles the ball; or © picks up the ball after returning to the court and then begins a dribble. Ruling: Legal in (a) and (cool.gif. Illegal in © as the controlled toss of the ball to the court by A1 constitutes the start of a dribble, dribbling a second time after picking up the ball is an illegal dribble violation.
