ive heard there might not be a team at bay??? cant find anyone to coach.
this school has one of the oldest programs in the state and now were gonna lose it cause the male school board doesnt think its important enough to keep or pay a decent wage.
the program itself might be hurting the pocket book of the school system. If nobody comes to the games its hard to pay the refs and coach. And then your in the hole.
With the exception of the group of senior girls basketball players that graduated in 2005, the volleyball program had the same following as the basketball team. The gate was the same, the concessions the same. The program is being dropped because the school administration won't hire a coach. This wouldn't be tolerated if we were talking about a basketball coach.
There are those that have wanted the program dropped for years. A former girls basketball coach, blamed every loss his program ever had on volleyball.
I feel bad for the school, and especially the girls. One of the oldest programs in the state will be gone. It's a shame.

This is sad Bayman, just sad! What else can you say. Glad your youngest got thru before all the stupidity

God Bless
my daughter wants to continue to play so badly we've discused changing schools, but then she cant cheer cause they do try outs last year, which is what most of these schools do for volleyball and basketball too. so shes stuck at a school that doesnt give girls sports a chance.
i just dont get it. harrisburg has added elementry volleyball and so has brookland to improve thier programs.

you would figure bay would want to be competive?
I wouldn't blame the administration, I'm sure they are looking, but sounds like nobody in the school wants the job. And you can't go out and hire someone to coach and not teach something at a school this size. Give girls sports a chance? BIC, Riverside, Marmaduke, Rector, Cross County, etc. don't have girls volleyball.

But they should.
They've allowed basketball coaches to dictate what opportunities the school will give the female athletes. In the end, it's the girls that lose.
And as far as a coach for Bay's program, it's very difficult to hire from within. Volleyball is a difficult sport to teach and learn. They need someone that's knowledgable about volleyball, and knows how to teach it. They're gong to have to look outside the school.
If they don't have any teaching spots open, they can't hire anybody. With a school like Bay, you can't just coach unless they can find someone who will only coach for the coaching stipen but I don't see that happening.
You're right cards#1fan.
They do have to find somebody to teach, and they don't have any spots.
My point is that this wouldn't be an issue, if they were looking for a basketball or baseball coach. They would make it happen.
Oh well. I guess it doesn't matter anymore. I don't have anybody at Bay schools anymore. I just hate to see all the time and effort I spent supporting and fighting for the volleyball program go to waste.
I guess I'm a Valley View fan now. My grandson goes to Valley View and plays there. I guess I'll trade my purple and gold in for blue and gold.
VALLEY VIEW FOOTBALL! GO BLAZERS!
Didn't Brandon Craig just leave Bay? Could they not hand his teaching duties to a VB coach? The main problem, IMHO, is that there are not any true VB coaches out there, unhired. VB is a sport that doesn't turn out coaches every year from the universities, maybe one or two kids a year, but that's it.
I have a plan for you...why not ask Joe Williams to come coach the team this year? He always talks about how it's for the love of the game and for the kids...well, here's his chance to put it on the line. This would truly be about the love of the game and FOR THE KIDS.
I hadn't heard that Brandon left Bay. I'm sure they probably gave his classes to the new coach.
Joe probably would, but his position at the bank is considerably more demanding now. He will hold several clinics at the area high schools this Fall. You'll probably see him making several trips to the new volleyball programs around this area to help them with their development.
He did coach the Lyon College team in 1999 for the entire preseason and over half of the season before they hired a coach. He drove to Batesville every day for over two months. Plus going on the road trips. He was a very busy, and tired man.
I have a considerable amount of admiration and respect for Joe. He's the one that put Arkansas volleyball on the map nationally. His efforts more than doubled the schools across the state that have volleyball programs. He was also the driving force behind the increase of volleyball clubs across the state from one in 1993 to 20 plus now. This happened because all those girls in other parts of that state let it be known that they "wanted to play like those girls from the Jonesboro teams". Before these clubs were developed, girls from as far away as Little Rock, Conway,
and some others, wanted to join the Arkansas Jrs. club. They were willing to drive twice a week to Jonesboro to be coached by Joe. But, of course, they couldn't be a part of the Arkansas Jrs. because of NCAA rules. Because ASU is in Jonesboro, there is a 50 mile limit on members.
Joe Williams is volleyball in Arkansas.
bay has implemented a rule that says parents cannot assist coachs. you have to be a employee to coach or even help with a sport. donno what pht means at bay ,but it sure doesnt mean helping with volleyball. so i assume this idea about joe wont work
im totaly heart broken. i wonder how many parents know this is going to happen?
as for you bayman, you will always be a yellowjacket even in blue and gold
Is dropping program already a done deal??
No, it is not a done deal. Last I heard they had something in mind to fix the problem and continue with the Volleyball program.
what info do u have, jacket???as of july 15th, no coach,no program. ive got a kid stressing very badly over this. if u know something spill it!!!!
