Tyrone Henry was a athlete too in school.
When I played AD Love was the man. Not the best but realy good. He got MVP of the allstar game in 94. I might remember him so well because he hit me harder than I have ever been hit in a ball game.
dennis Isbell, Jeff Law, and I played against thomas donnerson great athlete. Offered scholly by Memphis but grades were not sufficient to get in. Don lewis and emmit johnson just to name a few.
What about Richard Brothers from Rivercrest. All football everything and the state triatalon champ for them too.
I remember watching Steven Marshall from Rivercrest just destroy defensive linemen and lb's back in the mid 80's. He was one of the best running backs I have ever seen. Powerful drive, low center of gravity, quick and agile. Just a punishing back for those who took him head on and could burn you with his speed.
Whatever happened to him?
I forgot all about Marshall.
I like two current Lady athletes. Nanlee Bridges (BIC) All State in Golf and should be in Basketball this year & Audrey Booth (Riverside) All State in Golf and Softball.
Isn't that Craighead County?
Replying to Best Athlete ever in Miss Co.
Nan Lee Bridges lives in Mississippi county.

| I will have to say Cortez, Carthon and Joe Harvell(led SEC in scoring over Shaq). |
Joe Harvell lit the SEC up for a couple years.

Kind of hard to compare a couple of high school kids to Carthon and Kennedy.
Harvell lit it up because he played no defense and had the green light that he was promised out of high school, but in his third year they got a new coach that made him play defense and stop shooting 25 times a game and guess what? He was a heck of a athlete though.

I have to agree with you that there are some great athletes that came out of Blytheville that really never did make it as far they could have. I used to love watch Kelvin play. What was the guys name that was such a good shooter for the Chicks on that over-all state champions team of 1989? I think his first name may have been Willie. Not sure. He was in range this side of half court.
But I have to say that the best natural athlete that I have ever knew was Kevin Soward. It didn't matter what sport we were playing, he was natural at it. He was a gifted basketball and football player as everyone knew, but he was a very good baseball player also. He should have made it. He had all the tools. I know that he went to Murray State. I also heard that he got into a little trouble, in one way or another. It was awful that he could not keep going.
Someone else that comes to mind is Mitch Fryer. He really came a long way to make it to college playing football. He was very awkward when we were young, but he worked hard and did well for himself. Great football player and all-conference baseball as a senior. |
Mitch may have come the furthest from where he started and such a nice guy
