| QUOTE (pixtaker @ August 09, 2007 03:09 pm) | I learned a long time ago not to put too much weight on school team events which are held during the summer. Some team will purposely not show their hand during the summer.
I’m not sure what Marion lost due to graduation, but I know their choices for replacements shouldn’t be a problem. Having virtually 100’s of potential players to choose from I feel the Patriots will be more than ready. Marion has a long, strong tradition when it comes to volleyball. The Patriots travel to Hoxie this year...I'll fill you in on their strengths or weaknesses next time we talk |
are you trying to bust my bubble? I said milestone didnt I? you be nice!!!! |
I am just saying don't lose sight of the forest for the trees. Scrimmages are just that...scrimmage. It gives you and coaches alike a chance to see players in game-like situations. I have no doubt in my mind Bay will play even better when it comes to game time. While coaches may try, it is impossible to get players totally motivated for an organized practice against any opponent. In the backs of their minds, no matter how hard they try...they still know, "this doesn't really count"
Just wait and see come season time...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
i went to watch a jamboree at brookland last nite and marion is pretty good they have a sophomore who is 6'3" and can KILL the ball and at camp this summer that girl wasnt there valley view was good as always nettleton is pretty good and brookland will be good too all in all it will be good seasons for these teams
the marion girl was playing aau ball this summer, the other big girl for marion about 5-10 or so is the one you really need to look out for

| The west side school needs a new coach. Coach Patt has done some good things but it is time to pass the tourch on. This last summer there have been mutiple girls that have quit. |
she was suppose to have retired after last years graduating class. i thought it was a done deal till i saw her at camp this summer.
did they quit because she wanted them too or maybe they didnt want to work too hard?or because she's being more difficult this year?

| QUOTE (BayMan1975 @ August 07, 2007 11:07 am) | They definately have everthing they need. A strong program, quality athletes, a strong Junior Olympic influence, and the best coach in high school volleyball. Oh, and don't forget school support.
They may very well put a couple more State Championship boards on the gym wall. |
You forgot one thing...watered down competition. Not discounting anything you siad, and I do agree with all...but they only have 1 other school in there classification that gives a rip about volleyball and that team is in their conference with a few banners themselves. VV and Westside will compete for the state title every year in the next 5, mark it down...
Jonesboro, Nettleton, Brookland, Marion, and Wynne and 4-5 schools in the NW corner are the only schools in the state that push the sport athletics wise.

If a young coach wants to make a name for herself or himself, go study volleyball and coach that sport in Arkansas. You would be one of the top coaches in the state if you would do that. there are very few coaches in the state that take it seriously. Also I agree with you RiksSmiths JO vollyeball coaches try to convince their players to concentrate on VB, and I know this for a fact since they talked to my neice about quitting basketball a few years ago. also the competition is watered down since what is there 20 teams in the state that event play the sport.

The few that I know of that quit, quit because they wanted to focus on another sport. At Westside, volleyball has always remained supreme over the other female sports because a lot of the better female athletes feel pressured to play just volleyball. Whether that is through Coach Patterson or JO Coaches, it has almost always been the case. Whoever that pressure comes from, Coach Patterson doesn't do anything to alleviate that pressure.
There are a lot of girls that have played volleyball over the years at Westside for the simple fact that they're scared to go into Coach Patterson's office and quit. Not wanting to play volleyball at Westside is nothing new, but this is the first time she's actually had people stand up to her and quit.
If the girls that quit are actually anything of value to Coach Patterson, she will make them feel like trash until they come back. She had one quit last year during softball season, and since I know of at least two others that have quit. I know all three of those quit with the intentions to concentrate more on basketball.
I'm sure there is a better way to explain some of the things that are known, but I don't want to pull out a situation that shouldn't be done in public. I respect Coach Patterson. I have a tremendous amount of respect for her, but at the same time I don't agree with some of the methods she uses.
