The only state champion on your poll - Valley View. nearsports/clap.gif

Now had you included Brookland,Jonesboro,Nettleton and Piggott it would have been much more difficult to vote. Not really.

tailgator- 08-06-2007
im not sure why you would included valley view in this poll. im a true blue bay fan but the only team in nea that could even give vv a run is west side ( maybe jonesboro ). next time keep off vv and we might have a poll going on. lol

Loaded Poll... nearsports/shoot.gif

BayMan1975- 08-06-2007
Well, that's a no-brainer.

riksmits- 08-06-2007
Tech plays volleyball?

Rebel1987- 08-07-2007
Leave off Valley View because that ruins the poll and any intelligent discussion of the others. The fact is Valley View has 4 consecutive state championships! Westside and Jonesboro are the only ones with any hope of giving V V competition this year or any year in the near future. Just look at V V's junior high and you will see a long-term dynasty in the making.

They definately have everthing they need. A strong program, quality athletes, a strong Junior Olympic influence, and the best coach in high school volleyball. Oh, and don't forget school support.

They may very well put a couple more State Championship boards on the gym wall.

You forgot one thing...watered down competition. Not discounting anything you siad, and I do agree with all...but they only have 1 other school in there classification that gives a rip about volleyball and that team is in their conference with a few banners themselves. VV and Westside will compete for the state title every year in the next 5, mark it down...

Jonesboro, Nettleton, Brookland, Marion, and Wynne and 4-5 schools in the NW corner are the only schools in the state that push the sport athletics wise.

BayMan1975- 08-07-2007
You're right. Competition is scattered across the state. The successful programs are the ones with multiple players involved in Junior Olympic programs. Most school programs can't get the support they need for them to develop players, and build their programs. Coaches from other sports don't want to share their athletes. This slows things down. The sport is much stronger now all over the state than it was 12 or 13 years ago. The number of Junior Olympic programs has increased from one to 20+ in that time span. You can probably expect the sport to continue to grow, and see competition improve.

This goes both ways...school coaches and Junior Olympic/AAU coaches have no right to pressure kids to not play anything. Coaches that do that are very selfish and in it for their own personal glory than the good of the student athlete.

BayMan1975- 08-07-2007
I agree.

just for everyones information bay beat Marion at the west side camp and came within 3 points of jonesboro in the league we played in at westside this summer. i wonder if this is a sign of things to come for a team that was almost wasn't...we beat Trumann at camp and then they wanted revenge so we went to their school and played them again and we split the wins. bay hasn't beat Trumann in at least 4 years... so to these girls it was a milestone.
im not gonna say were the best ,but we might ask this question in a couple years and the answer might be different...

I learned a long time ago not to put too much weight on school team events which are held during the summer. Some team will purposely not show their hand during the summer.

I’m not sure what Marion lost due to graduation, but I know their choices for replacements shouldn’t be a problem. Having virtually 100’s of potential players to choose from I feel the Patriots will be more than ready. Marion has a long, strong tradition when it comes to volleyball. The Patriots travel to Hoxie this year...I'll fill you in on their strengths or weaknesses next time we talk nearsports/mdr.gif
