Bob White could get the most out of the least while he was at Manila. I never liked him when I was playing but thought his teams, rarely the most talented, were always competitive and well coached.

Good point. Probably also why White never won a state championship.

and Patrick Ewing never won a NBA championship, but he was inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

Buster Campbell hasn't won one either, but he has a record to show that he can stick it out even in the tough years. He doesn't run when the talent turns south. Bob was a great coach.
I have seen coaches that weren't that good win state championships just because they were so unbelievably loaded with talent.
Look at Osceola's old coach. He couldn't win crap to save his life when he went to South AR, but hey Basketball is Basketball right.

I think you misunderstood me. I ment the lack of great talent was a one reason White never one a state title.
The one thing I have always said about Coach White is he could take a team with little or average talent and win 20-25 ballgames, but a team with alot of good talent he didn't improve that much. Probably has alot to do with his style of play. We went 31-3 in 1996 and lost the first game of regional tournament.

Missco- 04-22-2008
Everyone has made a few good points. A lot of times a guy that is not the best coach in the world can win a state title just because of there talent. Some so-called good coaches can have the same great talent as the bad coach and not be able to win with talent. I have always thought that a lot of the good coaches that can get the most out of average players don't do as well when they have a lot of studs.

Yes,he did. He turned Greenwood down to stay the year after Brooks graduated. Sounds like you are jealous of Bill's success and that's understandable from someone who has such a small basketball I.Q.

Gathen did an amazing job at Osceola.

Everyone knows he stayed ONE year. Still doesnt change my point. Coaches leave when they have nothing to work with. If there is nothing in NWA (and i have no idea if there is or not), he wont stay there long either. And speaking of IQs you just showed yours by bringing something like that to this thread. What you got going on this summer Yaz and AAU basketball or anyting? nearsports/0c4fae0e.gif

Neabbfan- 04-23-2008
I thought he left to do the same thing for more money... nearsports/0c4fae0e.gif The so called well may have ran dry at BIC, but questioning his loyality to BIC is silly. Loyality at a certain school vrs a huge pay raise to better provide for your family...maybe thats not for us to decide.

basketballdad- 04-23-2008
I wasnt questioning his loyality, and I have no idea if he left for more money or not. I know he was paid well at BIC. As anyone should be that won back to back state championships. I dont know why a certain few think that i was dishing him for leaving. (unless its for conversation) I just made a point that as soon as the talent was gone he was gone. And If he has nothing to work with out in NWA, he will leave again. Its what coaches do.......as long as they have the ability to do so. I am a hugh supporter of Bowlin, but WHEN the talent is gone at Tech.....he will be too.( Write that down.). He will have the ability to go just about any where he wants to with his record. Taylor won with talent. One will never know if they would have had as bad of year as last season if he would have stayed. My guess...about the same outcome.

Missco- 04-23-2008
Bowlin won't have the options that Taylor had.

That is where we disagree. While BIC would not have been a state contender with Taylor last year, they would have been better. My guess, probably about 5 wins better.

anytime you want to get together and compare basketball I.Q. you let me know.

i've only played the game in 5 countries, but you probably haven't gotten out of that upper right hand corner of AR have ya?

there is over 40 yrs of coaching in my veins, along with times like this past weekend where I sat and chatted with Bill Self, Coach K, Coach Cal, Coach Pel, and the list goes on of time spent dissecting the game. You, well you probably crap your pants when you see Dickie Nutt.

It certainly is easy for you to make these claims since you won't identify yourself.

I'll even let you make up the -*test*-('").

Also, Bowlin can't go anywhere he wants because he has been banned from a state already. I believe it was TN. They don't think to highly of recruiting there it seems. I believe Bowlin wants to be in NE AR. He seems to always come back around. He does a great job, so who wouldn't jump at the chance. Tech wasn't a dominate school in men's basketball until now. The girls ran the show for years, Bowlin turned the tables.

It would be great to see Taylor turn the tables, but he is in an area where enticing a student to attend your school is allowed. Once he gets a handle on how to entice well then he should be ok.

TOOT! TOOT! All aboard!!!! Way to blow your own horn bearbait nearsports/clap.gif Wow! And to think my statement wasn't even directed at you. With your vast knowledge and background you must be coaching at a major college or the NBA right? We have a basketball icon posting right here on Nearsports ohmy.gif

I had made the same statement he did, so you are just picking the person and not the words. Thought this was a respond to words forum.

I am very proud of the heritage of basketball that runs in the family. It's actually called retired. I just sit back and enjoy extremely fundamental strategist such as Johnny Ray Taylor, Coach Hutchcraft, and Coach Bowlin. I simply travel around some, making sure I get a little taste of the best in every area. Speaking of that, what is the prediction on when they shut down or reformat the NEA Tourn? That thing has been week now for a handful of years.

I don't need a hand, but when someone challenges all a man knows, you better have some balls to bring it. Obviously for you, you must not bring it when challenged. Hate it for ya.
