I am still waiting for you to identify yourself. Until then, it's all BS as far as I can tell.

I had made the same statement he did, so you are just picking the person and not the words. Thought this was a respond to words forum.

I am very proud of the heritage of basketball that runs in the family. It's actually called retired. I just sit back and enjoy extremely fundamental strategist such as Johnny Ray Taylor, Coach Hutchcraft, and Coach Bowlin. I simply travel around some, making sure I get a little taste of the best in every area. Speaking of that, what is the prediction on when they shut down or reformat the NEA Tourn? That thing has been week now for a handful of years.

I don't need a hand, but when someone challenges all a man knows, you better have some balls to bring it. Obviously for you, you must not bring it when challenged. Hate it for ya.

It doesn't matter to me who you are but if you have 40 years of coaching experience pumping through your veins, you should know better than to talk negatively about fellow coaches on a public forum. Especially successful coaches such as Bill Taylor and Frankie Gathen.

bearbait- 04-28-2008
please quote me on the negative statements there ol' yaz. i must have somehow missed them. Gathen, friend of mine, i simply said that he didn't do well at all in the South so he is headed back NE.
If you misconstrued something about Taylor as negative then I apologize for offending you. He is not longer at BIC, so I should have nothing but great things to say about the man. Reading through though I am still not seeing anything negative. I do get a lot of great personal messages from folks that say they agree with me 100% on things I've said about him, but they know that it wouldn't fly around here promoting agreement for anyone that isn't on bended knee for him, so they simply send it via personal msg.

What does the letters that you used stand for there Grim? Couldn't make that out in this rated "G" forum.

Could he win crap? That was a common sense statement that I've heard out of his mouth myself. Basketball was completely different in South AR for him. He was so used to coaching with a loaded crew and tossing that insane press on people that worked so well simply because of the athletes he was able to toss out there. He was missing all those studs down in South AR so the press was ineffective.

Common sense statement there Yaz. Doesn't take a genius to get that. Did you watch any of his teams from Camden? I watched them in a tournament in Conway this past season. He said it was embarrassing.
My statement wasn't anything that he hasn't said himself.
What a terrible friend I am! Shame on me! nearsports/shoot.gif

I have seen coaches that weren't that good win state championships. Look at Osceola's old coach.

Your words. Looks like your saying Gathen isn't that good. Thanks friend!

A couple of bits of information for you.

Osceola won exactly 1 game the year before Coach Gathen got there, with pretty much the same players. He took over and the next year had us in the state quarterfinals. The two years after we won state championships.

It's ridiculous to say he isn't a good coach. He's everything that a great coach is. He's a master motivator, he's organized, and his practices are 10 times harder than the games.

I'm not making excuses for him, but when he went to South Arkansas he had a couple of personal problems that may have affected his coaching.

He took over when Osceola couldn't beat a single A team and won championships. If you don't think that's great coaching then you don't know much about the game or it's a case of jealousy.

Bearbait is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. The last time I checked Camden and South Arkansas had athletes running out there ears. Anybody in this state will tell you Frankie can coach. He was very successful at Bearden also. It sounds like if Bearbait were a coach that he regularly got beat by the likes of Taylor and Gathen

bearbait- 04-29-2008
You my friend have not watched Camden play basketball have you?

Gathen is not a football coach. Camden was loaded in football. Camden doesn't come to NE AR to play so maybe you haven't watched them.

He did, and still has those same problems. That is what led him out of a job in Camden. Gathens life was a living heck in Camden. He never was able to be affective with motivating kids, never got organized or settled in, and I don't know anything about his practices. I am not going to get into any of those issues, but they haven't disappeared and you brought him back to Osceola.

You guys better lock the gate to the city behind him when he drives in, cause trouble may be coming with him!

For all of you who want to ride a horse, this is a site that only intales impersonal communication. What a person says can be taken a million different ways if you just love to hop on and ride it. I was not saying that Gathen wasn't a good coach. I still haven't seen the quote that shows I said that about Taylor. The point I was making about Gathen in that sentence was aimed at a statement that said that basketball is basketball and it's the same everywhere you go. The same Gathen that loaded up his hand with championship rings in Osceola went down South and tried the same system and it wasn't affective. THAT is a true statement.

The fact that Misco chimed in is hilarious!

I'm guessing since Michael Jordan didn't do very well with the Wizards he wasn't a very good player with the Bulls?!?!

bearbait- 04-29-2008
since when have players been fired for not having a winning record?

come on Coach J, I expected something a little better from you then that. You are a much better man then to ride that horse.

LOL, not a fan of Osceola by any means. I also saw Camden play under Gathen. I am sure that I haven't lived on this earth as long as you but I promise that in that time I have watched as many games a year as you. Traveling isn't an issue since I do not work from Sept. until April. Granted I do not venture into West Central or Northwest Arkansas much but other than those areas I do frequent games. It seems like its Bearbait against everyone else and of course he is the "All Knowing" one.

Well, I'm willing to go out on a limb.
