The classiifications are going to change again pretty soon anyways. Brookland will beback up there with VV and Westside because its growing and if we get football it will grow a lot more

I don't want to be negative toward anything Brookland, but anyone would be a fool to believe Brookland would be anything more than a third place team in the current AAAA. Westside and Valley View would both roll over them twice during conference season and once more during the state tournament.

Other than Valley View and Westside, you have to worry about CAC, Mansfield, and Alma ... some of the traditionally stronger volleyball programs from other parts of the state.

Just because they weren't winning games and are now state champs, it doesn't take away from the fact that they benefited the most of any volleyball program in the state with the most recent classifications.

They weren't in same conference because they are a smaller school. That's how it works.

Uh, yes they were. Westside and Valley View were in the 3AAA conference with Brookland until 2 years ago when they were moved to 4AAA. Even as good as Brookland is at Volleyball it was just too tough having to play the other 2 for the state title. The very 1st year when Westside and VV left the 3AAA, Brookland was able to win the state title.

I was talking about last year. They weren't in the same conference because of enrollment last year. They will be 3A for at least 2 more seasons after this one.

Using your logic, GCT's State championship in basketball is really not that big of a deal since they only won because Jonesboro was in the next higher classification.

I never said it wasn't much of a deal. I NEVER said that. When they were in Harrison last year, I placed SEVERAL phone calls to Ashton Stevens trying to keep up with how they were doing and update the people on this very website.

I never said they weren't a good team either. I simply backed up the point that just because they're state champions, it doesn't mean they're any better of a team than they were the year before when they were beaten early in the state tournament by Valley View.

I understand your point....and don't disagree with most of what you're saying.I just don't like hearing Brookland wouldn't have won state "IF".You could say that about almost every state champion in any sport.

McCarroll21- 09-27-2007
Agreed and I wasn't trying to say that to come off that way. I knew some of the girls on that team and had they not played on the same day Westside and Valley View were playing in the finals, I would have likely gone over there to watch.

attackthebasket- 10-13-2007
But if you look back to when Brookland played Westside 2 years ago and then playing them now its a whole lot diff. If Feilder or Arnold got hurt their season would go down the drain... Madox and hit and block and others are good on the team but just think about that.. But dnt get me wrong I would LOVE to see Westside beat Valleyveiw in state or anytime for that matter

Well, I would contend that if you take two D-1 talents away from any team, in any sport, their season would go down the drain...

That's not too hard to understand, is it?

yes we know we haven't had the best team but it takes a little while to get really good

sport128- 01-05-2008
Cedar Ridge may not have won state this year but its not because they didnt want it. Those girls had some pretty serious determination to win, they just had a lack of experience and talent. This was the first year they have had a coach that cared about the team and had the desire to help the girls improve. I'm not saying they were great but, considering the seasons before i think they did a pretty awesome job! Congrats Cedar Ridge Lady Wolves!! Keep up the hard work!
