I'm not saying you don't work hard!!! I'm just saying that since some people on here think chance is awful i'm just telling them how hard he works and loves to play the game... & u play for a D-2 School??? what school you play for 0c4fae0e.gif

mduke05- 03-03-2006
I wouldn't knock the work ethic or judge someone else's love for the game whom I have never seen play. But I do know that there are at least 3 D-1 programs in Arkansas and each has a 12 man roster. That's 36 people right there who are more than likely better than him (just talent wise nothing to do with work ethic). That's also about 36 people who are better than me. That's just the way it is. By the way, I go to Arkansas Tech.

wbcbaseball05- 03-04-2006
well hey man just don't go knockin chance until you've seen him play !!! i don't knwo if you've seen him play ro not but he's awesome !!! he really tries hard considering that Wbc isn't the best school around !!! you know that but he still tries very hard and is one of the m,ain leaders on the team !!!

You just don't get it. I never said he didn't try hard or anything and I am not "knocking" him. All I'm saying is that he isn't one of the best players "in this side of the country." I would probably bet he would say that too. Talent has nothing to do with work ethic. Some people have more talent than others no matter how good their work ethic is. That's just a fact of life. I don't have to see him play to tell you that- Brandon Ballard, Ronnie Brewer, Steven Hill, Marcus Ardison, Matt Hall, Eric Ferguson, Vincent Hunter, etc. etc. are all better than he is. No disrespect to him or you but if you think he is better than any of the above players (and I could list about 20 or so more) then why isn't he at some major university somewhere? Now that I have said that, I am through with this topic and I will no longer reply to anything that is said on this particular topic.

Hmmmmmmmm Interesting comments from MDUKE05. In studying his replies, I think I have figured out a few things.

1. He went to school at Marmaduke
2 He graduated in 2005.
3. He plays ball at Arkansas Tech.

Upon further investigation, I have figured this out.

1. His name is John Clark
2. He walked on at Arkansas Tech and has never seen the floor.
3. He was not recruited by anyone.
4. Chance Smith would kick his censored.gif up and down the floor anytime big John wants to suit up.
5. There are not 36 players in Arkansas better than John. There are 3 D-1 schools, 6 D-II schools, 2 NAIA's, a couple Jr. Colleges, plus Central Baptist and a couple more schools I can't remember. Let's not forget the community center leagues. John, I would say there are more like 563 players in Arkansas better than you.
6. Words of wisdom John. It is better for people to think you are an idiot than open your mouth and prove to them you are an idiot. doh.gif

Chance Smith is good and had a great year, 32 points a game or whatever, but hes still just 6'6'' and playing for WBC!!!! He is NOT and I repeat not the best post player on this side of the COUNTRY!!!!

chadginsburg92- 06-26-2006
Chance Smith is a good talent. Especially for his size. He beat many high school players because he was taller. I have seen him mold his game to make him effective against people that are the same height and taller and stronger than him. He has developed a jump shot, and he doens't fade away as much. He wasn't going to sign with the U of A, he was looking at ASU. The decision to go to A-State is still being played in his mind. He is not the best player this side of the country. He could never be a Hansborough, but he has talent, skills, and the abilty to mold his game nonetheless.

The only way Smith ever puts on an ASU uniform, or any other D-1 jersey, is if he comes out on top of the walk on tryouts. He was never recruited seriously by ASU.

chadginsburg92- 06-30-2006
Correct me if I'm wrong but I am pretty sure I said looking at ASU. roll-eyes2.gif I didn't say that ASU was looking at him real hard, but when he was looking at ASU it was out of high school, he has gotten stronger and faster and plays the game smarter than he did in high school. I'm just saying now he has a better chance than what he did when he was in high school.

twinrivers9- 06-30-2006
Chance is a great player but best side of the country is wrong. Put it into context here. He was the best in his league. Ronaldo Balkman succeeded at S.Carolina at 6'5'' by bringing energy every night. That is proof that Smith would be able to get on at ASU and tear it up. IF he b rings great energy and hard work on the boards. He is NOT the best on this side of the country though. Think of all levels.

He was brought in for a tryout at ASU during his senior year of high school. He held his own offensively, but Nutt-job had him matched up on Lorenzo Hampton defensively. I don't really think I need to explain how that worked out, he's not near the athlete that Hampton is. He's filled out a lot since high school, and gotten a lot more coordinated. If you remember him from high school, he shot up the charts heighth wise. I think he wen't from about 5'7" or 5'8" to 6'6" over a summer, which is what lead to his ACL injury. All he needed was sometime for the rest of his body to grow into his height. I wish Chance the best, I've always loved the guy.

haha, so its Dickeys fault no D-1 or D-2 school in the country wanted him? Just accept the fact that he is a very good player at a low level of college basketball and be happy. Comparing him to D-1 basketball players at any level couldnt be any more ridiculious.

McCarroll21- 06-30-2006
I did not say that. I was just saying that he more than held his own offensively during his workout with the team. The reason why he wasn't given a scholarship is because of his defense. Dickie did in fact hurt him in this process by asking a post player to guard a D-1 shooting guard. He was given an offer to walk on to the team, but declined to take a scholarship at WBC. He had a full ride at ASU on the table for academics, but knew that if he walked onto the basketball team, the chances are that he'd lose his academic scholarship AND not be on a basketball team in a year.

All I wanted to do was point out that he was given a look at ASU. He was offered a spot on the team, but declined because he had a better option elsewhere. I don't believe accepting a basketball scholarship at an NAIA school is any less valuable than one at a D-1 school unless you have plans of going to the NBA. At both schools you have requirements to get a degree, and to my knowledge a degree from WBC is no less valuable than one from ASU.

I never said he wasnt good enough to walk on at ASU. And Zo was never a shooting guard in college. He was a SF.
