This must be a different GCT team than I saw at Searcy. It seemed they were well coached, passed the ball well, and had good athletes. I talked to the coach afterwards and he seemed like a class act. I don't know how they have lost three games in the east but would someone fill me in? I know batesville is usually tough but Nettleton and Valley view are they better this year?
Nettleton is better this year. Valley View is down from last year. (to the Semi finals last year in 4A and lost in OT to Clarksville the evenual State champs) went Batesville is also a little down from last year because of injuries.(Goalie and Forward)
Their coach might be a class act but he does not know much about the game of soccer. You can only ride athletes so long before you have to coach them up a little on the game.

^ 1. Jonesboro - by far the best team in this area. They have depth and play the game of soccer well. Should be in the finals of the 6A again.
^ 2. Nettleton - team speed and ball control is good. Thier defense needs work. Could win their 1st round game at state. (if they can finish 1st or 2nd)
v 3. Batesville - winning tradition. Forward and center mid are two of the better players in the area. However their other forward andgoalie might be out for the season. Still see them one and done in state.
^ 4. Valley View - have a great forward and a defense that is solid. Young in the mid field. Are looking better but still not sure if they are for real. Could win a game in state?
v 5. GCT - good offense and a defense that is inconstistant. Ball skills are weak. do not like to talk about coaches but this guy has talent but does not coach soccer.
Honoarable Mentions Marion- Not a bad team should make the 6A playoffs. But one and done. Paragould- Could jump to number five after a win tonight. West Memphis- To much of a one man show to be in the top five. Might not make the 6A state CRA- to early to say but I see them being in the top five later. |
If CRA has the full team at the games and they have not just played baseball first they will be 2nd or 3rd.
|
Their play at forward is too weak to be in the top five

Not quite sure what you mean by that.

Pretty much the same team that you saw at Searcy with the change of a starting forward and defender. The Searcy game was sort of a freak. It was the first game of the season and GCT's natural atheletes with very good speed gave them an advantage over a less speedy inexperienced team. Nettleton started off slow this year and have improved where as tech has pretty much stayed the same. Also the tall grass and standing water at Searcy was a big advantage to GCT. The balls died on the ground and tech's speed let them reach the short pass first. Also the ball dieing on impact with the ground helped with tech's almost complete lack of ball skills. At Searcy when they played it in the air and it hit the ground it stayed close, on a decent field it bounces 20 feet away and someone else plays it.
Soccer freak has it right in that the coach has to coach them up a little, only about half the starters have every played for a ligitimate soccer coach. They all want to play the game differently or in groups of 2 or 3. One way or another they have got to get on the same page.
