its a long stick with like a really sharp fork on the end of it and you spotlight them then stab them with the gig.

We usually just catch them with our hands.

yeah we do that sometimes but the ditches are so big around here you have to have a gig to get across them.

I like to go on the river. If the driver is good you can run right up on the bank and grab them. I only gig them if we can't get close, that way if they are too small you can throw them baCK for seed. biggrin.gif Sometimes the driver is not good and you get your arm pinned to the bank. THat really hurt. It probably would have broken except it sunk in the mud a little. I sorta wanted to gig him after that but then I might have had to swim home. biggrin.gif one handed.

Hands are best, just wade or use a boat. Best thing is if you don't get enough for a mess then you can just turn them lose. Also if you use a gig there is a chance you may gig a snake, never caught a snake by mistake but they are hard to get off the gig when you gig one by mistake.

A friend of mine did one time but needless say he was pretty intoxicated.

The only river we have around here is the Cash River and it's always full of people on the first few nights so we just drive around on the back roads and spotlight the ditches and fish ponds.
