GCT sr high boys and girls played at searcy tonight. girls lost 4-0 and the guys beat the defending 6a state champs 3-0. lenderman and maxwell had the assists while pickens and williams got the goals. the field was very similar to a swamp and was hard to do anything at all on but i guess that works to gct's advantage. they were very physical from start to finish and it looked like searcy wasn't used to playing physical soccer. good game by both teams

The girls lost 6-0. This year's new mercy rule went into effect with 10 minutes left in the game.
The guys played very well for the first game, and I'm sure Searcy wasn't quite ready for the physical game considering it was thier JV team and most looked to be freshmen. I won't argue the boys JV point past this post, but two different Searcy parents confirmed this seperately and you had three or more varsity boys sitting in the stands during the game in thier nice shiny jackets with state champion patches talking about thier next game being Tuesday.

I was kinda thinking that had to be the case. GCT I'm sure has improved over last year...(there was no where to go but up) but I don't think they could handle the 6A state champions if they had played their main squad. Don't get me wrong I'm sure GCT did a great job...just don't go bragging cause you beat a JV team.

tech will be better too, tripod wasn't playing last night so that will improve the offense as well
Hillbilly- 02-19-2008
Gct boys were missing Cambell on defense as well, nice problem to have with the boys, better overall speed this year, I would have a hard time choosing starters, with everybody health and present they need to sub 3 or 4 players every 5 to 10 minutes.
The girls are another story, the starting forwards last night needed to be at midfield and Tripod was about the only one with enough speed to play forward effectively. And they need to play defense in front of the 18 not in the goal area.

i think you may have misunderstood them. gct and searcy both had their regular season schedule filled up and they added that extra game in on the schedule. since its a game over the limit your allowed to have on regular season games you have to technically call it a JV game even if its not. it was considered techs JV vs. searcy's JV bc they were both over their limit in games. both coaches agreed to play their starters. it was the real deal. you can call and confirm it with the coach if you are still uncertain about it. when is gct's first home game? im ready to see them play as soon as they aren't so far away and a little closer to home.

Thier schedule is posted. Regardless of what may have been agreed upon Searcy did not have all of thier varcity starters in the game for the boys and perhaps not even the girls. No uncertanty here.

I'm currently a student at Harding and I know alot of the Searcy players I can tell you that 4 starters did not play. The three best players which are all midfielders and the goalie. The goalie was sick or he would have played. I don't know what agreement the coaches had before the game but I can tell you the game was listed as a JV game for both teams. Now saying that I will admit that Tech has one of the fas-*test*-('") teams I have seen in awhile and I follow soccer every year. If all of the starters had played I think Searcy would have won but it would be a very close game that could go either way. I have seen North Pulaski, PA, and Hope play and I would take my chances with Tech over all three of them. I will also say that tech suprised me and every one from searcy watching the game. Good luck to tech the rest of the season b/c I'll be keeping up with you.

Searcy used 3, maybe 4 keepers. Not sure if the 1st one came back in last or if it was a 4th since I did not get a good view of him in the 1st half. But I think it was 4 since the last keeper played better than the others and seemed experienced.
Tech has a lot of speed which gave them a big advantage against Searcy with the field conditions. With tall grass, mud, and water the ball died, passes were almost always short and tech was first to the ball.

the had to list it as a jv game because both of the teams have overscheduled games...

so you have seen hope, PA, and teams like that play this year? i heard they all lost alot of ppl. who looks to be the powerhouse this year in the 5a?
Sportsfan1- 02-23-2008
Although I haven't seen many teams I would have to say Harrison and Siloam Springs would probably be the favorites. PA looked down to me this year but they are still talented. I hear that Batesville is the same as they were last year so they will be good. I think Tech can be very good. Sorry I can't be more help. I really follow 6a a little more.

yeah those two teams are very good every year. im sure thats because they practice year round am i correct? i think the only team from the east that practices year round is batesville. all the other teams are made up of mostly players from football, etc and have to wait until that is over before they can start. i think the team to beat from the east will either by batesville or gct this year. it will be a close one. but thanks for sharing your information on that.
