What does everyone think of the emergence of high school wrestling in the state. It has been all over the news of the various schools picking up wrestling. In case you don't know wrestling runs pretty much on the same time frame as basketball. I was curious if any NEA schools are going to pick up wrestling.

I heard a report about 8 schools picking wrestling up but didn't hear who. Do you have any idea??

I wish rector would have had wrestling when I oldest son was in school, he would have loved it. There are several of our football boys that don't play basketball that would probably love the chance to compete in something during the off season. I really doubt that the smaller schools administration could be persuaded to pick it up though. Who knows though it might be something that the smaller schools could find alot of success at. Anything to keep the kids busy and out of trouble gets my vote.

The schools that are participating this year are

AR School f/t Blind
Brinkley
Central Arkansas Christian
Fayetville
Bentonville
Gentry
LR Hall
Pulaski Academy

I think there are some others who will be picking it up soon possibly even before the wrestling season begins. You can find a vast amount of information regarding the push for high school wrestling in Arkansas by visiting the below website.

Was hoping to get some response back on what people think. I can see why it hasn't taken off. Everyone only cares about basketball and football on here. Wrestling is by far the most drueling sport an athlete can partake in. I can't see why we are only one of two states who doesnt' have it.

2 more schools have added wrestling. Springdale high and Springdale Harber have picked up wrestling for this year. I believe that makes 12 schools who will be wrestling this season.

Another school has added wrestling. The word through the grapevine is that Bismark has picked up wrestling.

I recently heard that there are 16 schools that have agreed to wrestle this year. I know the magic number for sanctioning is 16. I do know that the board has to vote on the matter, but as long as you have 16 schools participating it can go to a vote to become sanctioned. It looks like one of the most demanding and exciting sports in the world is about to come back to the natural state. I can't wait to see some matches this year, even though most of these kids will be realtive amateurs.
