Full Version : Hillary Supporters for McCain/Palin

There is constant speculation on what the Hillary supporters are going to do now. I would like to hear from Hillary supporters. Will you vote purely party line or do you plan to pave the way for Hillary in 2012 by dumping Obama this year? And to all the female Hillary supporters, did Palin influence your decision?
pixtaker- 09-09-2008
Speaking as a McCain supporter allow me if you would a bit of your time.
I am a conservative first and foremost. I have a core of base beliefs which direct me to individual candidates and not party lines. I won't get into these beliefs here because like discussing religion, it is a very touchy subject to most.
I will say I have never considered voting for Hilary for any office just like I never supported her husband when he sought any elected office. From Attorney General throughout his long career which finally led him to the White House, I can proudly say I never voted for Bill Clinton...I stuck to my core beliefs and did not budge.
Sarah Palin is another story. I have never seen a politician that could connect to real women on the national stage. She doesn't talk in analogies prepared by speech writers, she speaks of them from experience. She doesn't relay stories of mothers with 5 kids, she is one. She isn't speaking against a woman's right to choose, because she chose to have a baby she and her husband knew would require life long assistance. That speaks volumes to me as a parent.
Hilliary Clinton is a female period...Sarah Palin is a real woman...and as a man, I like that a lot!
skles718- 09-09-2008
I totally agree with you! I just wonder if the "talking heads" on tv are right. Can a woman like Sarah Palin cross party lines and bring in would be Clinton supporters?
As a woman, and a republican, I can say even though I knew I wouldn't vote for Hillary, simply because of her platform, I still was excited that a woman was potentially even considered for the position of President. When Obama decided not to even acknowledge she got 12 million votes and not add her to the ticket, it was a little insulting to women. I felt like that was the reason he didn't do it. Why else would he not pick someone who already proved she could get at least 12 million votes??? And more importantly, my daughter who is about to be 10 was really disappointed.
Then came along Sarah Palin and she was excited again. I was excited, not only because she is a woman, but a STRONG woman and one who shares my core beliefs and values. To me, you can't get much better than this VP pick. I just wonder what it is like for female democrats...

Palin is a joke. Two years ago, she was the mayor of a town less than half the size of Paragould! A town in the most remote part of the US who's biggest problem is how to keep the moose herds off the street. And now y'all wanna make her the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. Y'all seriously need to seek professional help. Set the therapy appointment for election day and make it an ALL DAY appointment.

I agree with you on this.
I was a Hillary supporter and no way is Palin going to sway my vote to that side of the ticket.
By the way I voted for Bill Clinton every chance I got and would do so again in a heartbeat given the chance. I can proudly say that!

Seems like the Obama people always forget she is also the Governor of the largest state in the United States. Though the population is only greater than 3 of the 50 states, there is a lot responsibility in running Alaska which is a leading energy producer for us. Yet somehow you see a junior senator who has no record of ever making a major country impacting decision fit to lead our nation. And this is the republican VP pick. Obama is unfortunately the main guy for you. I would have much rather seen Hillary Clinton be your nominee. Although I believe she would've been tougher for the Republicans to beat, at least I would've been confident we didn't have someone getting a crash course between November and January on how to handle executive power if the Dems did win.
McCain was not my pick in the primaries, but there is no way I would vote for Obama.
I did, however, vote for Bill Clinton because I didn't like the republican nominee. So I do see it being possible for people to cross party lines when they are unhappy with the nominee and they see something possibly better or safer.

I respect everyone's choice when it comes to politics. Some people vote for candidates for reasons other than my own, that's fine. I do my best to follow the path in which I was raised. I wasn't raised to be republican or democrat, I was raised to know the difference between right and wrong.
I know Grim didn't post error purposely, but he is incorrect in some aspects of his post.
Here are the facts...As far as Mrs. Palin being the mayor of a small town 2 years ago, she wasn't. She was mayor up until 2002. She then ran for Lt Governor of Alaska, but was not elected. From there she served on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She chaired the Commission from 2003–2004, and served as Ethics Supervisor. Palin resigned in January 2004, pro-*test*-('")ing what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Republican members.
In 2006 she was elected as Governor of Alaska.
Grim is absolutely right tho....She was never a community organizer like Obama.
In no way do I blame Grim for questioning her abilities, that is his duty as a citizen. I just happen to disagree.
Keep in mind when casting your vote...Voting is a privilege, not a right

I stand corrected. Her resume is even worse than I thought!

I am on nobodys' side here. I don't know who I am voting for, and I may not even know until I get ready to go vote, but I can't believe you guys would go by a resume anyway. Yours truly Mr. Bush had one of the best ever, and he end up being the worst president we ever had, and we elected him to a 2nd term too !
I don't know if I should vote anymore, anyway...I don't know why I should when my vote doesn't count as much as someones elses. Will someone please tell me why the person with the most votes doesn't win the

election anyway !?!? O.k I am done.
Rebel04- 09-09-2008
palin has just as much experience as obama if not more

Actually... I agree with you kind of. If it were popular votes that were counted instead of electoral or delegates then Al Gore would've been the President and Hillary would've been the Dems nominee this year. It can be frustrating... but the Electoral College was designed as a part of checks and balances to make sure no manipulation or fraud was happening and insuring that all is fair. In a nutshell, it keeps states with lower populations from being at a disadvantage against highly populated states.
But don't "not vote"!!!! Please vote! No matter what your party affiliation! And yes a Presidential election should not be decided by resume alone. That is why I started voting with my core values and beliefs. I used to vote on resume, on personality, you name it... but I found I was always let down. And yes George W. has had some decisions that I cringe at the thought of, but at the end of the day I felt like he would come to the aid of Israel in their time of need, protect marriage and protect unborn babies and those are my top priorities. When voting you have to figure out what your top priorities are and go with it. So in the categories in which I found the most importance, our President did just fine.
But- if I had to go directly to more popular reasons I will vote Republican in this election I would have to say 1) no more taxes 2) less welfare 3) less government
(to name a few) Figure out yours and get to those polls!

...and also shares only gender with your former candidate, Hillary Clinton.
Why won't Palin submit herself to the press?
Why can't she answer any tough questions for herself?
Why does she read the same speech prepared by Bush's speechwriter at every rally she has been to? We have heard NOTHING different from her other than that speech that she read at the convention. NOTHING.
When asked about her foreign policy knowledge, why was the only thing that Cindy McCain could come up with is the fact that "Alaska is the closest state to Russia," and is having to be tutored by Joe Lieberman on foreign policy?
Why does the McCain campaign and Republicans in general whine about sexism and criticism of Palin, when Obama has been made out to be an Islamic extremist antichrist who is out to secretly destroy the United States, and they made Clinton out to be a whining female during her primary campaign?
Grim- 09-09-2008
Biden is going to rip that little girl to shreds when they debate. Pop some popcorn!

This is politics 101... everything in its due time. She doesn't strike me as the type that will be able to hold her tongue, perhaps that's why she hasn't been allowed and I do believe she hasn't been allowed to be interviewed yet. She doesn't strike me as the type to hide or back down from an argument.
As for Biden, he is known for being an attack dog so I'm sure he'll fare well in a debate, but he is also well known for putting his foot in his mouth. And you're right... the only thing she and Hillary have in common is the fact that their female, and strong, and opinionated and a mom. Hillary would have defeated McCain with or without Palin.
You won't hear me complaining when they question Palin's decisions, associations, and record. When you run for office you are held up to ridicule. Anyone in politics would be naieve to think they were above it, male, female, black or white.
Obama's voting record made him look like a non-patriot, his association with a gangster and a anti-American radical pastor made him look suspicious, being educated among radical Islamists as a child caused fear in a post 9/11 world, having virtually no experience makes people nervous. And that's odd for the media to be to blame for that because I've never hear the major networks NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC ever label him as any of those things. I've only heard individuals make those deductions.

I'm want to say one more thing before I leave this thread.
Slinging bad remarks for President and Vice President shows nothing more than a lack of investigation by voters. We have nothing educated to say, so we resort to smear.
We all need to examine each candidate for this most important office. President and Vice President of more/less the free world. Choose your candidate with care and vote for your candidate of choice. That's all anyone can ask.
I've made my choice...now Weatherman...get your tail out there and vote for who ever you want to. You can't complain if you sit at home on election day!
Take care all
