Is the Westside kid the 6'10"?

I'd say 6' 8".

bearbait- 06-01-2008
From college coaches talking they think that he could become that tall or even taller, but for his current status he is listed at 6'8. Heard a few comparisons to the 9th grade version of Tyler Hansbrough. Never saw him play, so I won't go that far just yet. All signs point to him tearing up the state the next few years though.

Hunter's 6'9", I believe. He's not done growing yet, I actually think he grew two inches during basketball season alone last year.

Big Eagle- 06-02-2008
How hard is he working in the weight room? An extra 25 pounds for next year would really make him more dominate.

I believe he has a personal trainer.

Monk was not SEC caliber on the court. Period. You can't make me believe that the prospects of making millions in the NFL didn't play into his decision to concentrate on football.

Don't care to argue the other stuff, but your crazy if you don't think that Monk would have been an impact player for the Arkansas basketball team. I belive he would have been better than Brewer. He also has a type of leadership and work ethic that that lathargic group of underachivers could have used. I think he would have been worth 5 wins a year, and at least one more round in the big dance. He was Mr. basketball his senior year on a championship team. His HS football team was less than 500. His athletic ability on the basketball floor is what got him noticed by football coaches anyway.

Wow, are you sure that he may not have been the next Jordan? And you called me crazy? nearsports/07388820.gif

He would have fit right in with Brewer for sure. Well except he can pass his own classes where Brew had a little help. One reason he took an early exit. Cduke...you got to admit, Brew wasn't much until this season in the league if you even want to say this year. Monk would have taken some spotlight off of Modica and Brewer both. He used the state his Sr. year like they were Little Dribblers. Who knows what he would have done, but one thing is for sure...he would have been a standout in any conference before he graduated. If he chose hoops he might have been free of all those weird injuries that nagged him during parts of every year.

Hunter's mother told me last week she thinks he's 6' 10". He's a smart kid. Hope he's patient and goes to school where he wants. The sky's the limit.

Monk could have been a solid SEC bb player. He would have got a lot of playing time, but just got a few starts here and there. Who knows what would have been if he played bb only. He was also a smart young man, and it got him to the NFL.

Comparing Hunter with Tyler Hansborough is crazy. I saw Hansboraough play about five times in HS. They have totaly different games. Hunter is a finess player and Hansborough was a beast even in the 9th grade. Hansborough's game didn't change that much from HS to college other than he got stronger. He was a banger down low and Hunter is softer. Not saying he wont get more physical as he gets older and stronger just dont see that comparison now. If he hits weights he could stand at least 25 lbs if not 30. That extra weight and strength would keep him from being pushed off the block. No doubt is is a good player now and will only get better. I would personally like to see him at a larger school with better competition.Maybe a Jboro, GCT or even Nettleton< preferably a 6A school.

You're right TH has something that can't be coached "heart". Hunter has yet to even play a game as a sophmore, and he's got a ton of attention. If Hunter improves any at all from year to year He'll put up very simuliar numbers to TH. Will he have the desire to compete at the d-1 level? we'll have to wait and see. I'm sure pulling for him to be successfull at the next level. As far as competion, he'll get doubled and tripled every night, and he's already proved he can compete against J'boro and nettleton.

In my opinion what he hasn't proven is that he can handle being banged on by kids that are bigger and stronger each and every night in HS...and he won't have that opportunity at Westside. Now I'm sure he is getting pushed around a little in AAU, but I haven't seen any stats and results from those games. Anyone got any news about his AAU season?

whsfanbyforce- 06-05-2008
I don't know what he's averaging this summer, but i'll find out. I do know 3 weeks ago he got 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game. Hunter is the Real Deal. You guys just hide and watch!

Big Eagle- 06-05-2008
All I know is that in Memphis he would be lucky to average 10 points a game. There are a ton of kids who are 6'6 or taller when they are freshman and alot weigh 220 plus. I was 6'8 260 pierre niles was 6'6 240(he plays at memphis) white station had a 6'7 260, Hamilton had three 6'7 freshman Thadeous young was 6'8 210. These are the guys he will play against at the next level. For 4A he is athletic. In memphis he is average.
