I haven't seen any post on this sight that involve rodeo, so I thought that I would post some thoughts on the subject for anyone that might be curious.

We just got home from Star City, AR, where we attended a AHSRA rodeo. We spent the weekend in the living quarters of our horse trailer, it was cold and wet and very cramped. But it was one of the best times that I've ever had with my child. Rodeo is the only sport I have ever been around that has such wonderful supportive fans, competitor and parents. There is no insults or negative comments to the kids that have a bad day or get thrown only concern and helpful advice.

We have been to alot of rodeos throughout the years and I have to say It is one of the best ways I know to spend time with your kids. The word sportsmanship takes on a whole new meaning at a rodeo, competition is stiff and everyone wants to win, but the kids support each other and help each other.

There is alot of traveling involved and it takes commitment from both parents and kids. But I spent the whole weekend with my child and some very good rodeo friends that understand that being competitive and a successful athlete can go hand in hand with being a good sport and a good friend.

Arkansas High School Rodeo Association is for teens grades 9th thru 12th. There are events for boys and girls. Rodeos are held in different parts of the state, you can find info on the AHSRA on the net.
