So, back on topic.  What jobs are starting to come open?

Thanks for getting us back on topic. Does anyone anticipate openings at any of the larger schools in the area?

If you would like to coach and teach in a great christian enviroment CRA has a boys coaching vacancy. JR boys SR boys.

How good of a job is Cave City? I know that the facilities are tremendous, and community support has always been fairly good. What are some things that would be attractive about this job, as well as possible turn-offs?

I heard they are going through a down cycle in talent. That would be a big turn off to me.

I don't think that would be a turn off to a coach that is confident in his system and abilities.

I've talked with several people about the job at LR Christian and people seem to think that it doesn't look like a very good situation even considering the talent they have returning. The former coach who people didn't get along with well, is staying on as AD. That is the reason that everyone I talked has said they wouldn't even think twice about putting their name in the hat.

I hear that Camden is suppose to be making a decision tonight maybe. Not sure just how reliable the sources are on that, but it's the news I've heard.

As far as Cave City goes, their #1 love there is hoops! So you can easily build a program there if you have the desire to get in and get your hands dirty. They will definitely support you. Plus the kids are a lot stronger now that you have athletes coming in from football.
Their rafters were filled with banners when I went to watch the state tourn there. So history has a way of repeating itself.

So is Gathen being pushed out or is it on his terms?

I totally agree with you about the Cave City job. History does have a history of repeating itself and that school has plenty of history. They have never been a powerhouse, but they do get plenty of support and with the football program taking off it can only benefit the basketball team.

Then Coach J, go to Cave City and see what you can do. Your system better be really good to win with no talent.

LR Christian, the coach that was there is out, all the way. They have already hired a new A.D., the football coach, Johnny Watson. Supposedly they had over 30 applicants, two of which had over 20 years experience, on of them being Roger Franks. A.D. is trying to hire one of these two before he moves on with any further interviews.

Would Jamie King not be the 1st candidate for the job? He has been at Cave City for at least 10 years as an assistant and feel he does a very good job. I feel it is his job unless he doesn't want it.

ASU might as well call themselves the Stepchild if they hire Nolan. If this many years of being out of a real coaching job makes him seem like a great coach again then man will Nutt look great in about 15 yrs!
If you want no dicipline and more players being arrested for drugs, rape, and theft then you are interviewing the right man for the job! Wow what 10 yrs can make us forget! nearsports/indian.jpg

I would say that Frankie will be looking for a new job in NE AR. Camden Fairview just hired Adam Simmons as their new head coach.

bearbait- 03-13-2008
I talked with a Camden school board member just yesterday, and he indicated that Frankie chose to step down after a very stressful season. He is have a couple of very difficult personal issues that will take some time to battle through, and that it was in his best interest to not continue coaching at Camden-Fairview High. I didn't get nosy, so I don't know any other details, nor do I really care what someone is "personally" struggling with. But this is the news that I do have.

And as far as LR Christian goes, I am not, nor do I desire to be, a coach. For the sake of a great program, I am glad that they have someone else as A.D. I love Roger Franks as a coach, would love to have him in Central AR in a great program like that!

Little Rock Christian has hired Pulaski Academy's basketball coach Winkelman. that leaves the PA job open which would be a great job. they just had a freshman committ to arkansas and they have 2 jrs. that are very good, could be a good job but very weird on why the coach would leave such good talent.

Congrats to Adam. His dad was a very fine coach and I enjoyed playing for him.

Wow, your talkin throw back days now. You played for his Dad? Adam is like in his mid 30's. His Dad hasn't coached in over 10 yrs or so. Where did you play for him? Just wondering if he ever coached at Tyronza or something.

Just checked the Nettleton School District webpage, but it did not specify if it was Jr. or Sr. High. Is Smith out?
