Walnut Ridge is the 2008 Lawrence County Champions

Congratulations go out to the Lady Bobcats on capturing the 2008 Lawrence County Softball Championship.

As was clear to all in attendance, Hoxie has a new level of importance being placed on the softball program. The softball program at Hoxie now ranks just ahead of badminton, and is neck and neck with basket weaving.

As a patron of Hoxie and a parent of a player I was totally embarrassed at the conditions of the softball field. Parents from other schools were in shock and made comments to myself which were anything but flattering. The largest school in Lawrence County has the worst softball field. This was made even worse by looking at the baseball field which sits next to the softball field. Not one single weed. Fire up the lawn mower or lets invest in a goat!

I was at that game. It is probably hard to mow with all that water standing on the field. I saw an outfielder miss the ball and she got a bucket of water splashed back on her from the wet field.

I think Black Rock has the best field in Lawrence County. I love it.

If the field were in the best possible shape under the circumstances, then by all means my argument "holds no water" The baseball field was freshly mowed before the tournament and the softball field was mowed the day after.

Black Rock's fields are by far the best in Lawrence County and some of the best in NE Arkansas. But then Hershel Bryant (former Black Rock coach) wouldn't have allowed his name to be put on anything that wasn't a class act.

Played on Saturday and mowed on Sunday. That sounds like the coach is making an effort to me.
