Hmmm- if the admin is upset with anyone, they better include themselves as they knew there were problems for 2 years. Normally I would agree with the statements about not quitting what you start, but it is over and has been for awhile. If you were in a regular job and you were treated in the manner they were, you would get the heck out.

There has been no "TEAM" for years. The kids that left are entitled to their self-respect, they have earned it. Maybe a couple quit because of the bandwagon mentality, I don't know, but the meeting was more to make sure that what they were doing was the right thing to do. The SRS knew this was going to create a lot of controversy, but when you get to the point where you have absolutely no respect for your leader as a leader or as a person, then you need to leave. If the girls that quit were troublemakers, I have as of yet to hear of it.

Listen, we were niave back in the 9th grade as well, before all the mindgames started. They have NOTHING to be ashamed of. IF he stays, your turn is coming. I remember when these girls won their conference and district as well. Don't tell me these girls have no heart or talent. If these girls stayed this last week and what was implied would happen did happen, your daughters would have been at their practices simply to have been beat up on to try and make our daughters fight for their "spot". Do you really want that?

Don't know what this is about, so let me guess. I love to guess.

Sounds like a great ball player moves in from another school, and the other girls got a litte jealous of her getting more attention. I could be wrong. If I am, what is the problem that is so bad they want to quit playing ? Sounds like to me girls just starving for attention like all young girls do. wink.gif

If you were replying to me weatherman, then you have to guess again.

I wasn't guessing at anything, just telling you what this sounds like to me, and like I said, I could be wrong.

Remember some of the girls are the same group of girls that had problems in volleyball and quit. I guess it is easier to quit than play hard. These girls actually quit playing basketball a month ago, they just quit the team yesterday. If you look at some of the parents you know where their thoughts are coming from. The 9th graders may not be able to compete just yet but they Lady Skins just got alot bigger, faster, and smarter. If getting beat down is trying to learn from your mistakes they will get beat down alot as they go through life. As for the coach, he is a KEEPER!

Weatherman, I agree with most of your posts, but the jealousey thing doesn't even make sense. If that were the case they would have quit long before now, and she was as upset that night as anyone, probably more. Like I said earlier, all of them wanted to quit, but there were personal reasons for some that felt they had to stay. Yeah I agree to about quitting, and if this was as simple a matter as some want to think, then they would have quit long ago. But when you put up with what they have put up with this long, and make it this far, then you have got to figure that it must be a lot more to it.
He has not let them play up to their potential at all, but this isn't the first team to feel that way. They felt several of their losses could have been wins if they were allowed to make the changes that would have made sense. But the losses are not what this is all about either. Like I said earlier, this isn't the first group to feel this way. And if you are going to try and say they couldn't put up with the tough practices, wrong again. The toughest was easier than any of what they had before. The term I have heard most was boring.

That is why I wrote " I could be wrong ". I guess maybe I was.

I am saddened by the fact that the lady skins were disgraced by a mercy rule. They have always prided themselves with their athletics.. It hurts to be embarrassed both on and off the court or field. The lady skins were destroyed as observer 12 put it about rebel football. Good luck to the non-quiters.

You sound like a true voice of experience. Unless you know a lot more about the facts, you really don't need to crucify. I recall a couple of parents of the now 10th graders that couldn't see anything but greatness last year, guess what, they had their eyes opened amazingly fast. As far as them quitting a month ago, I beg your pardon. I guess you didn't see the EPC game, probably not, no jr. high game that night. They played their hearts out, had they been allowed to finish with the same style that got them back in the game, Most people think the result would have been different. Why when running and gunning gets you in the lead and 4 fouls on their best 2 players, would you not continue to take it to them. Same thing in other games. When they look good, gotta change, but if it is getting you beat badly stick with it, ex.: full court press. Were you at the CAC game earliers this year, for those with so much experience, that would be the team that won 4A state last year, and is as good or better than last year. We were down by 4 points, all the starters were pulled and told they were not prepared, and did not put them back in until we were 30 behind.
Now get out there and hustle. Now I want to know how many of you could get out on that court and give it your all, day after day starting at 6:45AM , Now this is a team that conditioning only comes from playing in games. The morning of their biggest games recently were spent running to condition them. I think time spent on a game plan would have served better.

No they were not quitters they had their heart ripped out too many times. Oh yeah and the coach has never made a mistake it has always been the team.

Pocahontas has had great success the last 15 years. Coach Blaxton started it, Coach Moore continued it. The fact that players, parents, and fans are now complaining about unfairness, meaness, and being put down, is a sign that something has fundamentally changed. That change is a difference in players and parents.

Pokey's dynasty was built upon good kids and parents willing to accepts excellent coaching. If that has changed, and it appears it has, that is a sign that the empire is crumbling. If the parents and fans complaining can remember the 1980's, they better get ready because they're going to experience it. Dissention is contagious and hard to cure.

I hope the administration digs in and resists this change because if they can't, Pocahontas girls athletics is headed for mediocrity at best.

BLUE33- 02-15-2008
Were any of these players starters or see much playing time??

Pokeyfan- 02-15-2008
Some of them were starters. 3 of them I believe. Was told it was a total of 8. In response to someone posting earlier about whether Alex Sheets had quit..she did not. I talked to her mother last night.

Pokeyfan- 02-15-2008
Could get VERY interesting!!! nearsports/mdr.gif

bigredfan- 02-15-2008
I have talked to a lot of people, some from a few years back, and some just plain fans, and I must appalogize for my post. I have found out that this goes much deeper than most know. Now all I can say is I'm sorry, especially to the girls that have been hurt the most. I have been made to see that they and their parents have been hurt more than you can imagine, and sorry that I made it worst.
