| I have been around school's my whole life. I don't think in any situation the inmates should run the jail. In other word's the coach is in charge regardless. I don't know all the details of this situation but I know enough that I hope the admin. backs the coaches. When it happens twice then something is wrong and its not the coaches. heck, it might not even be the player's fault's. That only leaves one group. |
Misco, I'd say you've hit the nail squarely on the head.

| QUOTE (pokeyman @ February 15, 2008 09:16 pm) | When a TEAM falls apart - something may be wrong besides the players and parents. Coaching personality, attitude, style, discipline, methods, and game planning should also be considered. The coach is the ultimate leader of a TEAM. Something, somewhere went wrong under his leadership. A constructive review and recommendations for improvement may be needed. Resisting a coaching change (if needed) can also lead to mediocrity.
Hopefully former coach/supt Blaxton can recognize and fix the problem. |
"Constructive review" huh. I bet you think that you (I assume you're a parent) could give an unbiased, experienced opinion. You can't. No offense no parent can. I understand you feel the need to stand up for your kids, but sometimes you have to step back and realize kids need some "constructive review." Sometimes that review needs to be critical- it all can't be with flowers and roses.
If the coach could've stood over there with a smile, patted everyone on the back, and told everyone "we'll get next time," none of this would've happened. Everyone would've been content, but the chances of the season continuing any further would've been the same as now. But he didn't, he showed the competiveness to try to motivate and improve with "constructive review," the players didn't like it and quit
The administration needs to stand up for their coaches, and I think they will. Open boycotts can't be allowed to be common practice.

Again - it appears a problem exists.
I don't have the facts - am not involved - and it's not my job -
but phs might want do a "constructive review" if they want to field a girls team next year.
If a policy or method isn't working - improve the situation and change it.
I give my children "constructive reviews" when needed.
My boss gives me "constructive reviews" when needed.
Coaches give players "constructive reviews" when needed.
Admins give coaches "constructive reviews" when needed.
Voters and boards give admins "constructive reviews" when needed.
The school exists for and belongs to the parents and children -
not the coaches and admin.
Admins, coaches, and teachers are nonrenewed or reassigned as needed.
If school and athletic problems aren't addressed - they won't be solved.
And the school programs will suffer = mediocrity.
I will admit to being a "biased parent" and doing what I think is best for my children. Years ago i saw some coaching methodology i judged to be wrong and refused to allow my children to participate. It is a parents right and duty to do so when they feel the school has failed. When enough parents do so - change or mediocrity will result.
It will be hard to field teams without players.
I would consider 8 players leaving this late in the season as a sign of a problem that needs "constructive review".
I believe the vast majority of the world's problems are caused by a failure to communicate effectively. Hopefully everyone involved can benefit, learn, and improve themselves by communicating and solving this one.
I am sure that the coach has fault's. Every coach in the state has fault's. However, he is still the Coach. That is the way it is and should be. Coaches are hired to be in charge and run things as they see fit. Player's are not always going to agree or should they but if they choose to play then they must listen regardless of what they think. If they don't want to follow the rules or dislike the coach then don't play the next season. However, it shows that they are the ones with the problem's to quit before the season is over. I am sure the coach might have done somethings the player's and parent's didn't agree with. However, he is the one in charge. Coaches only do what they think is necessary to motivate player's to get the most out of them. I guess I was just raised that you respect authority figures even when you disagree with them. Marty is well respected in NEA and around the state. If Marty leaves then the pokey girls program will have trouble getting a great coach just because successful ones will be weary of the situation. I wish everyone luck in the situation.
I agree Coach Moore is a great coach!.. He coached a GREAT jr.high team this season!..and as long as he has been at pocahontas he has had GREAT teams!
Everything was fine as long as this group was winning and there was no change in playing time and motivation. I do not know how they have won as many games as they have with absolutely no post play and one kid that can take it to the hole. This is a group that wants their way and when they do not get it, cry, cry, cry and QUIT. Blame it on the coach, he has won more games than these girls have ever watched and will continue to win games. This is the same group that tried to break the sr girls down last year and when, at regional time. Guess what, they were bigger people and it did not work. Good luck to the ones that are not quiters in life. No matter how many more games you win, YOU ARE A WINNER!
What happened to the jungle, home of the 6th man? I heard that it was dissolved. That says a lot when administration has to start assigning seats.

I don't know where you got your information, but you are wrong.
There were 9 that quit. One of them may have returned. After their last game I know at least 2 more are quitting. If this were a new feeling among players, parents, and fans than I would say they were wrong, but this feeling has been the same every year, both here and Maynard.
What motivation? A timeout early in games would be a good time to try that. They are none scared of being yelled at. They would consider that a sign of caring.
A nice guy would also have found time to play a senior that has been with the team from jr. high on in games that we had a 25 or 30 point lead. She worked hard all through the years. Why not play her and others in games like that, instead of stalling a whole 2nd half. Give others experience or time they earned. With the exception of 2 games, one of which was senior night, she only got to play about the last 2 minutes.
mindwalker, to answer your question..first off coach goodwin is also the volleyball coach and was bashed exactly like coach moore is being now. it was exactly the same except i think it was more pointed toward her. maybe the coach moore thing is to, im not exactly sure.....

?(can anybody clarify??) but also to answer your question..i believe she is absolutely amazing!!!!some/most ppl dont agree with me but i was giving you my own personal opinion. she has helped me alot this year in quite a few ways..all ya gotta do is give her a chance

| I have talked to a lot of people, some from a few years back, and some just plain fans, and I must appalogize for my post. I have found out that this goes much deeper than most know. Now all I can say is I'm sorry, especially to the girls that have been hurt the most. I have been made to see that they and their parents have been hurt more than you can imagine, and sorry that I made it worst. |
Now here is a rarity, someone admitting they are wrong on here. My hat is off to you, you are a "real man", even if you might be female. ( your id does not identify gender).
By the way, I am just a casual observer on this issue, with no opinion on either side of this issue. But I do feel that those of us who do not know the real story do not need to be too harsh on either the girls or the coach. The truth should work the situation out.

Is that were he is from also?
HogsFan- The jungle was dismembered as it should have been. I don't know why you would ever doubt me. I commend Pokey's high school prinicipal for taking action. I have heard good things about her. To those of you who dispute that Marty Moore was coach at Maynard, I know that he was. He was and still is a fantastic coach and person. Pokey is lucky to have him.
