9 or 10 of the members of the Lady Skins team took a walk this morning. The 9th grade girls will be joining the team in the morning. They won conference and district, with only 1 conference loss. Look out Regionals. Look for them to make a real difference.

Are you sayin' they took a walk, as in quit? A couple of ninth graders can make a difference, not sure about that many.

pitboss- 02-14-2008
The ninth graders from Pokey will not be able to compete very well in the Regional. They have no outside shooter and are not even close to being as quick as the teams they will see in Bald Knob. Look for one game and done for the Lady Redskins. I hate to hear about all the quitting. What is the reason?

Well any one that has followed the Lady Skins the last few years knows that every year, except of course last year, that the Senior starters have been beat down, until they get to the point of not having any fire left. Look at the team from 2 years ago. Great bunch of Sr. Should have done well at tourney time, but didn't even make regionals. Why, the Sr. had no more to give. Every good team needs a motivator. What this years team has got is more put down. They have watched it go on for 3 years. Yesterday mornings practice to get ready for Valley View had nothing to do with preparing for Valley View. It was only intended to put them down once again. The team brought it upon themselves to motivate thereselves and played a really good 1st quarter, were ahead by 2, but self motivation can only go so far.

There is a huge difference between Jr. High basketball and Sr. High Basketball.

That is very sad. No reason not to hang on for one more week. It sound's odd that theese players played all season then decide to quit with only regionals left.

Yea and the potential to go to state. How many of the girls that quit were srs?

Missco- 02-14-2008
I don't care what it is in life people should not quit what they start. That really bugs me. I don't care if the players don't agree with the coach or not. He is the coach and they are the players. They knew what it was like before the season started. It is time that people started being responsible for things. If I were the admin. and school board I would be very upset and it wouldn't be with the coach.

Sounds to me like their parents need to give them a beat down. My kid doesn't quit anything. He will finsih what he starts ...period. If he doesn't want to play next year so be it , but you do not quit a team sport in the middle of the season without a tremendously good reason. I am spoiled is not a good reason.

Of course I don't know individual reasons, but I think for the most part they were probably not good reasons. A "team meeting" with a bunch of kids at a fast food joint probably didn't have a lot of good judgement involved.

If they quit then don't let them back... take a stand and stick to it. If they quit once then they will quit again. Let the 9th grade play the regional game and don't let the others come back next year..

I totally agree. If they don't want to play next year thats fine, but they should finish the season out. I'm not sure if i would move a bunch of 9th graders up. They may go down to Bald Knob and get their butts kicked and I don't know what that will prove.

Pokeyfan- 02-14-2008
What do you propose they do then? Do you expect the rest of the girls to quit too? Please. That's probably not going to happen. The freshman girls may not be as experienced as the seniors that quit, but they have alot of fight in them. hey also have alot of heart too. After all, they are still on the team, win or lose. Good luck girls. As for the ones that are no longer on the team..I hope this wasn't a rash decision that you'll regret. Good luck to you as well.

observer12- 02-14-2008
Yes, I suppose they should have stuck it out for there last chance to be humiliated again. He already implied that. Previous srs. have contacted the quitters and said they wish that they would have done the same thing. The girls that did stay, 2 more and possibly another one or two are quitting after next game, one will graduate. So that only will leave two or three. Also he would not have had 1 player left if their parents would not have made them stay. Every senior should enjoy every minute of their last season and have tears when it ends. That has not been the case in several years. By the way the decision was made for most of them during the game last night. Made by each of them as they saw the final destruction of the meaning of team.

I am not saying anything on this topic.....wait I just did. blink.gif For real, I am staying hush on this one.

The Bassmaster- 02-15-2008
Me too. I don't know the facts.
