The Melbourne Bearkatz came to the Joe V ready to be the upset maker and they proved themselves to be the real deal. They beat Turrell after being down by 5 with 16 seconds left in the game and Turrell with the ball. This team just would not quit all nite. To make a long story short, they refused to be defeated. Pure and simple. They were beat but they didnt know they were beat and came back to take the 61-60 victory.

Then yesterday Abundant Life, a very good team built an early 20 point lead. Now when you get down to Abundandt Life by 20 you are normally beat. But the Bearkatz did not know this and went on to pull out an impressive victory.

This team is just a good well rounded team that never , ever quits.

My hat is off to them nearsports/clap.gif

Anyone have any comments or observations to this very good group of winners?

I will agree that Melbourne looked good this week. They could have just given up but they played to the very end and won both games. Their girls team is very good also. I can see both teams playing in the state tournament this year.

Did one of the boys from ICC move to Melbourne? I thought I read it on here last spring but I may be wrong.

Coach Watson does a great job. Alot of people look at him and see someone theydon't like, once you get to know him it is hard not to like him. His teams from around 2000 to 2004 were second to none in AA. AA was loaded at the time and I believe Melbourne had a run of 2 to 3 final four appearances but could never get over that hump. From what I saw this weekend, they are back in title contention. It is important to point out that those transfers are from Melbourne they transferred to ICC and are now back at Melbourne.

Anyway, it was a great week of basketball and a great job by the Nearsports team covering the Joe V. Jones. I expect to see alot of the teams that were there playing deep into the season.
