I have read these threads for a week now and all I have seen are people dancing around the actual events.
I want someone to post exactly what happened in the order that it happened, what her actual injury is and the current prognosis. |
ok with permission i'll tell you the facts i know...
Lacy was feeding the pitching machine and a team mate hit it, the ball rattled around the cage and backfired and hit lacys thumb. She then told the coach she had hurt her self. The girls started drills, including sliding drills. LAcy tried to slide into 3rd, and came up short and very hurt. The family proceed to the hospital and she was told her thumb was broken, and to see a specialist. she has since been informed that there is a piece of a bone broken off, as well as a fracture in her thumb. Tomorrow, Thursday, she is going in to have surgery on her thumb. she can not pitch for at least 2 months and we are hoping thats the max.
These are the facts and hopefully i didnt leave anything out or add anything in.....
As for leaving BAy, this will be her and her families decision.
one of my favorite movie quotes says it all....... "say it aint say joe, say it aint so."
Jumping ship is not as easy as it used to be with the new AAA rules. School choice would mean sitting out a year of participating in athletics for students entering 10-12 grades. An athlete would have to move into the legal residence of the school district to be athletically eligible in that district.
what about a 8th grader ( this year) going school choice? since she hasn't "played" softball, does she still lose a year or is she okay to play in 9th?

That only applies IF the school she is leaving doesn't give her a release as prescribed by the AAA.
Sorry, the rule has changed as stated above for the 2008-2009 school year. Read the change in AAA handbook. You must move into the district or sit out a year of athletics.
New AAA eligibility rules for next school year
Students transferring after July 1 of the 10th
grade year shall not be eligible for one
calendar year (365 days) unless there is a
bona fide move from one public school district
into the public school district that the student
will be attending.
14. After July 1 of the 10th grade year, parents in
districts having multiple high schools must
make a bona fide move into the attendance
zone of the school that the student will attend
for the student to become eligible.
15. After July 1 of the 10th grade year, a student
whose parents live outside a 25-mile radius of
a nonpublic school must make a bona fide
move within a 25-mile radius of the school that
the student will attend to become eligible.
softball, so as you see it, little sally ( 8th grader) can school choice & play 9th grade basketball, volleyball, or softball?
I really want to know
There is a July 1st deadline. If you transfer before the deadline AND have all of your forms signed by BOTH schools (have school board approvals) AND returned to the AAA prior to the July 1st deadline, you're cleared by the AAA.
This came from long standing and active AAA board member. He named off the forms that have to be signed but, ultimately, they have to state that the student is not transferring for athletic reasons.
A bona fide move,as you stated above, does not need all of the forms clarification.
No, that is only true prior to July 1 for students grades 7-10 in the future.
It used to be the rule for all grades 7-12. That has been changed for the 2008-2009 school year. This is a major rule change that has been made public for a year now. It will go in effect July 1, 2008.
Straight from the beginning of the AAA handbook under eligibility changes:
All transfers must take place before July 1 in
grades 7-10 for eligibility purposes provided
CSAP forms are signed for public, nonpublic,
or boarding schools.
Students transferring after July 1 of the 10th
grade year shall not be eligible for one
calendar year (365 days) unless there is a
bona fide move from one public school district
into the public school
I'm just stating what a AAA board member told me on the phone.
My transfer will be a bona fide move, btw.
You can't leave all that behind.
