nearsports/razorback.gif it's crazy but maybe they will tell us why. when do yall play

I have explained this several times, but here goes again. Last season at the 12yo state tournament Travis drew the bracket placement at the tournament banquet with a deck of cards. To stop that we DA's agreed to do a blind draw at the spring state meeting. That way the teams will know before they get there when they will play.

Now, get over it. This is only a issue because we send more than 1 team per District to the tournaments. Should we stop and only send 1?

No, draw the tournament like you always do except throw the cards and the hat away except for those districts that evidently don't play district tournaments. Draw the bracket according to seeds. If a district plays a district and they play themselves into a slot then put them there. If you have a district that doesn't play a tournament then pull the hat back out and draw for seeds for their district only. This makes the tournament still more traditional in the ones either getting the byes or playing lower seeds. I am over it was along time ago, but since you posed the question about only sending one team I thought I would throw in my two cents. This is no different than what the AAA has to do for all sports in high school involving regional and state tournaments every year.

Robo, you are right. I know that is the way to do it. But if we leave anything that is even remotely gray then these other District guys seem to pull things that cause me to have to field hundreds of complaints. I will work on the draw system over the off season and see if I can come up with a way to draw that still takes in consideration what a team did in the previous tournament.

Thats all anyone can ask.

I don't have a problem with that as long as it's fair to all teams involved.

Mom, I didn't see this post before I posted in the other forum. I have an absolute sincere question for you. What could possibly not be fair about it? I want your honest opinion.

OK...first of all...I applaud any parent has the time, money and patience to take a group of kids around to tournaments to play....that's great. My boy loves to play, but he likes the lake also...so he chooses to go to the lake and not play on the weekends...and that's our choice. Some parents don't have the resources to give them a choice and those are the kids I'm talking about here.

So to me the kids that can't afford to attend tournaments outside of regular league play haven't had the same opportunities and their team hasn't meshed together....

In most of these LL tournaments these kids are put up against kids that have been playing together for a lot longer periods of time. For instance...put a team that has been playing tournaments outside of regular season and has racked up many many games against a team that has played together maybe 3 or 4 games...which do you think is ahead of the game.

I understand your side...you want a seeded tournament because your team has fought for it. The parents of the kids that can't afford to play extra games feel a blind draw evens the playing field a little. I'm caught in the middle...I field many calls from both sides. I honestly don't know what the solution should be. I just want it fair to all.

I am a firm believer that any team can win any game on any given day...if their gloves and bats are right....

Ok, I see your points, nothing is perfect but the way that avoids the most problems is to seed them the way they are supposed to be seeded. People that want to make the travel team argument are going to make it whether they play said team the first or third round so why not seed it the right way. In my mind it elimnates all of the "conspiracy" theory issues as well. Oh yes, we believed that was the case and so did a couple of other teams. I don't now because I know how the tournament was drawn up. Thank you for your response.

Baseballmom, let me just put this out there. The job that Travis and Jeff and Mr. Moss do is a thankless job at best. Yes, they will hear all the negative comments and hardly ever hear the words Thank You. Thank you for all you do for the children of Little League. Thank you for the countless hours that you put into this to make it work Thank you for putting our families before your own. So, I will say it. Thank you.

Bump!

I told ya, no one ever reads the good stuff. Sometimes people read into what is said and form an opinion of what they want it to say, when thats not what it says at all.

I have never referred to anyone as "skunk' or complete Jerk" I did state that 2 people joined Nearsports.com in response to that. I also made reference to "its my way or the highway". Those comments were not from me about me (as an admin on this board), but by the way I thought the state tourny was ran. So, when reading a post that I leave, if your confused about its meaning, read it again.

Again, Thank You DA's and your assistants....

Continued luck must go to the NEA Storm...I called my Daughter who is in St.Louis watching her little brother play in the series. They won their first game Monday then went to go watch the Cards play Monday night. They were scheduled to play again this morning but got rained out. Haven't heard from her yet

we made it to the consolation bracket and it rained 3 to 4 inches and they cancelled our part of the tournament. The boys were up against some good teams. Anyone that pays their coach a thousand dollars a month to play better be good. the new season starts on Friday. Thanks to everyone that was rotting for the boys and keeping up with how they did.
