I am posting this in its own thread because I am afraid it is not getting the attention that it needs.
As many of you know, NEARsports is aspiring to launch an internet radio station. We are a long ways off from this, perhaps as much as a year, because we do not have the necessary equipment to launch this endevour.
We began an advertising drive last month, but Hurricane Katrina has hindered our efforts. The drive is at a standstill.
It was suggested by Cupcrazy that we allow the NEARsports members to become "Community Supporters" by donating money to this cause. After weeks of consideration, I decided to try this.
Please keep in mind, that even with the donations, it still may be months before we are finally able to launch this project. But, with advertising revenues down, you would still be doing your part to support NEARsports.com, regardless of whether or not we launch the station.
The donors will recieve badges under their usernames in all of their posts. There are two donor levels.
$5 to $24 - Silver Donor
$25 or over - Gold Donor
Silver donors' names will also appear in silver in the "Who's Online" list, and gold donors' names will appear in gold.
The badges should be available to me later this week and they will be used in our donors' profiles immediately thereafter. Until that time, I will use the badge I have available to me. It looks like this:
If anyone donates $50 or more (and that's a REALLY BIG IF), that member will be designated as Platinum. I do not anticipate this happening, but if it does, I'll be ready.
We have already had two members that are now donors.

Two other members have pledged to become Community Supporters by week's end.

If and when we have at least fifteen Community Supporters, I will launch a private forum here that will be open to ONLY the Community Supporters. In this forum, the gold and silver members may discuss any subjects they wish. There will be less restrictions in this forum, as it will be a PRIVATE forum.
If you wish to become a silver or gold member of the NEAR Forums, you must send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE through the board's system. I will provide you with our PayPal email address, or I will provide you with our office address so that you may mail your donation.
That's the long and short of it, folks. The ball is in your court.
