Pocahontas has hired a new softball / volleyball coach to replace Coach Goodwin. Hopefully that winning tradition will come back to the lady Redskins next season.

ponyboy- 05-27-2008
Where is Coach Goodwin going?

fanatic- 05-28-2008
Thunderstruck, I hope you are not insinuating that Coach Goodwin was the cause of not having a "winning tradition" this year. The softball team was VERY young and inexperienced for competitive play. If you saw them play their last game against Westside you will see how far they came from the beginning of the season. They played an AWESOME game and the girls were feeling very confident about their game. Too bad there weren't more to be played. I wish Coach Goodwin the best wherever she lands---she definitely knows the game of softball and volleyball. Hopefully, the parents will stay out of her coaching business. Good luck next year Lady Redskins and to the new coach!

P. S. Am hearing she moved somewhere around Little Rock.

I can't say that I am not happy about that. I have no kids there yet but did take my daughter to see a couple of the girls games. I was very disappointed to see the coach in the dugout talking on a cell phone when she had runners on base on more than one occasion. That to me does not send a very good signal to your team. Maybe I just caught her on a bad day but as a parent I would be very discouraged to see my childs coach display what I would consider apathy. I wish her luck in her new venture and hope for a good hire for the girls. I hope the young girls stick with it. They can only get better and am sure they will as they wre a very young team.

Yes I do believe Coach Goodwin had alot to do with Pocahontas having a losing season. Yes they were a young team and yes she does know softball. But I know alot of people that know the game but I don't think they all qualify to be coaches. Oh yeah she was on her cell phone ALL THE TIME. She didnt fit in Pocahontas athletics. Her lifestyle didnt fit. All I can say is thank the lord she is gone. nearsports/clap.gif

Maybe Pocahontas can find a Coach who'll take orders from parents. Maybe the Redskins can find someone who'll coach and have starting lineups according to how many dollar signs are in the last name. Pocahontas didn't want a Coach, they wanted a puppet. Best of luck in filling the space.

Money talks, I guess. Coach Goodwin wasn't up to par, no one liked her, and she didn't like this area. No one argued when she left her contract at Pocahontas. So, good riddance, IMHO.

Softball, yet, is just another sport Pocahontas will dominate within a few years of some heavy investment in training and the advancement of player prospects. Besides, from Pocahontas' record in Football and Basketball, I'm sure you're acclimated to the defeats handed down to you by the Redskins.

The win/loss record between Hoxie and Pocahontas has nothing at all to do with my post. Neither does the fact that Pocahontas' heavy reliance on former Redskin Marissa Baltz was the main reason the Lady Redskins found marginal success within their league. With the loss of Baltz due to graduation so went any advantages Pocahontas had.

I stick by my guns when it comes to Courtney Goodwin's techniques and abilities in coaching. She and her mother are mirrored images of each other on the softball field as well as the volleyball court. Hoxie's Goodwin has found extreme success and the younger Goodwin will do the same in time. Some from Pocahontas will find themselves saying, "I wonder what would have happened if..." nearsports/0c4fae0e.gif

I wondered what would have happened... Are you actually being serious? Do you really think there is one player, one administrator, or one parent that will ever wonder if pocahontas should have kept Coach Goodwin. Obviously you agree with her lifestyle. But here in Pocahontas we objected to it 100%. Not only was she lacking in communication skills but the chip she carried on her shoulder was enormous. It was her way or no way. You can't expect to come into a position like she had and be so set in her ways. Her first year to ever coach and she had all the rules set in stone before she ever met with the players. Yes I believe it would be hard to come into a school like pocahontas where so many parents are involved in their kids sports. Pocahontas has not only the parents behind our teams we have the community. We come together as one to support the skins. We welcome a new coach but only if they don't come in with the attitude goodwin had.

LOL, pwned.

Just unplug your keyboard picturef4g. Your defense of Goodwin and her heritage was p1ss-poor, much like everything else that has hailed from Hoxie.

GTFO, newb.

fastpitch62- 06-26-2008
You live and die on pitching in fastpitch softball and a mediocre team went a long way riding on Baltz's shoulders. For Pokey to rebound they are going to have to get pitching. Westside pounded Pokey early and although Pokey looked better in the end, the main reason Westside didn't pound them in district was mainly because they were using a pitching machine set on 60 trying to catch up to Hendrix from Highland. I said it was a mistake to hit off that machine and then try to hit a slower pitcher and it was evident after watching district but we still got'er done. Now I will say this, Westside will be weaker after losing almost their whole infield so Pokey might do better, but I think Highland will dominate and probably VV over Pokey next year. I wish everybody luck and it doesn't even matter to me anymore seeing as how my daughter is gone. I will watch closely though. Good luck 4A conference.

Cyan1de, If you have something to say...post it so everyone can read it. I have nothing to hide with my posts and neither should you.

There is also another way of looking at this whole situation. Courtney can do a whole lot better and no coach should have to put up with the constant montage of criticism and arm chair quarterbacking from parents. The pay teachers receive isn't enough to compensate. Her way or no way...sounds like what coaching is all about.

Best of Luck Courtney

Hey pixtaker, sounds like you know all about being on a TEAM....

Aren't you from Hoxie? So in other words nothing you post on here is really taken that serious. Sorry about your luck. Why didnt Hoxie try to get Coach Goodwin to come there? From all the posts it seems as though you have been desperate to find a coach. Maybe a few of the parents and administrators knew the truth about her? Not only in coaching........

The pot calling the kettle black?

What were your comments (posts) made about Hoxie's coach this past spring? I have no dog in this fight, just posting an observation.

I'd be happy to have Courtney at Hoxie and so would a lot of other people...however I haven't heard of any openings.

I watched her grow up as a kid and followed her all through High School. She was one of the few athletes who was good at sport she took part in. As a Senior in High School she talked to my daughter and showed her some techniques in pitching. My daughter was in the 5th grade. While at WBC she and her mother would work with the Volleyball team during July getting them ready for the season. Not only did she know the game as far as rules, she has the ability to actually show a kid what to do. While she coached at Pocahontas she had an open door policy between Hoxie's team and Pocahontas'. The two teams worked together on more than one occasion and learned from each other.

Some say Courtney has a chip on her shoulder. Coaches jobs aren't to be a best friend to anyone. They're hired to mold players into better players and win ballgames.

No coach comes out of college knowing exactly what to do in every situation that arises. Mistakes will be made and lessons will be learned. She'll grow as a coach somewhere else and other kids will learn from her enthusiasm and desire to win.
