Missco- 10-10-2008
1. West memphis
2. Helena
3. Blytheville
4. Jonesboro
5. Osceola
6. Batesville
7. GCT--they are improved
8. Newport
9. Earle
10. Marion

Hats off the NEAFBFAN---I think he got every pick right this week.

other than West memphis. I don't think anybody in NEA has a chance at a state title. Helena might but I bet a team from the west wins it again.

neafbfan- 10-11-2008
Nope. Missed Hughes/Hazen and Clinton/DeWitt.
That's 93%, but who's counting?
Thanks for the props though Missco.

You actually picked those two games correct also. Hazen and Clinton both won.

Scott- 10-11-2008
It's a top 10 Missco. How can nobody deserve the 10 spot? The #10 team is not irrelevant.

Parkview is ranked #8 and is not a NOBODY and Marion is ranked #6....that's in all of 6A. It was a close game.

Marion is probably better than 2 or 3 teams you have in the top 9.

Missco- 10-11-2008
I put Marion at # 10 but wouldn't be surprised if they lose to Mountain Home this week.

Scott- 10-11-2008
West Memphis is a beast. They haven't allowed 40 points combined all season. I'd have to put my money on West Memphis, as well.

Helena tied them, that says a lot about them. Other than that, they are crushing opponents.

I must've been a wee bit tired reading the scores last night. nearsports/07388820.gif
Thanks for checking on that for me.
Two -*test*-('")s down and two more to go. Whew!

topdog- 10-11-2008
Same goes for Earle... they have only allowed 26 points all season and are averaging 50 points per game. Not bad for a first year 3A team.

Rivercrest was heard by some comparing Earle to Osceola on their speed, size and abilities...

Batesville finishing 4-3 in the East? Sorry...I don't see Batesville losing 3 league games. What 3 teams do you see beating them? I only see them losing to Helena...MAYBE. Isn't that game scheduled in Batesville?

Meanwhile, what's Missco's pick on JHS-W. Memphis this week?

Missco- 10-13-2008
West Memphis by 21. I also don't see Batesville losing 3 games. I say 1 maybe 2 at the most. They have Blytheville and Helena at Batesville.

neafbfan- 10-18-2008
Batesville won the last game they'll win for this season. Barely. cool.gif

policeman- 10-19-2008
4A-3
Osceola 7-0
Newport 6-1
Trumann 5-2
Gosnell 4-3 (wins head-to-head)
Pocahontas 4-3
Westside 2-5 (beats VV in week 10)
Valley View 2-5
Highland 0-7

Don't you see a problem with this picture. You have Trumann finishing with a 5-2 record, which means, they will win out because they have already lost 2 conference games this season. You have Newport winning out also, but Trumann plays Newport in week 10. So, most likely Newport will beat Trumann in week 10, putting the Wildcats at 4-3. Also, I agree that Pokey and Gosnell will also finish at 4-3. Gosnell should loss to Osceola and Newport and win their other conference game. Pokey should beat VV and Highland and loss to Osceola in week 10. So what will come into play will be tie breaker points. Trumann beat Gosnell by 1 point, currently giving them 14 tie breaker points. Pokey has 20 and Gosnell 39. So if Pokey wins the next 2 games by a TD or more, then Pokey will take the 4th spot and Trumann the 5th.

Here is how it should look at the end of the regular season.

Osceola 7-0
Newport 6-1
Gosnell 4-3
Pocahontas 4-3 (depending of tie breaker points)
Trumann 4-3 (depending on tie breaker points)
Westide 2-5 (way to go Warriors, I think everyone in the nea is proud of you)
Valley View 1-6
Highland 0-7 (poor Rebels, co-champs one year, winless the next)

Then again, I think Westside has the potential of beating Trumann as well, everyone knows that is a good rivalry. In that case, Pokey would secure the 4 spot.

neafbfan- 10-19-2008
Nice post policeman. I'll admit I probably overrated Trumann and underestimated Gosnell.Looks as if Pocahontas almost turned things around in time. The top two and bottom three are probably secure as is. Fewer surprises up at ahead.
