I'm very aware. Guess what, it didn't hurt my feelings. He has stated that was only meant for a select few. And what does that have to do with winning and $$$, the 2 things ASU isn't familiar with. If you want ASU to be a 2nd rate school don't hire him. He's already brought nation attention to J'Boro and he hasn't even took the job. And by the way, someone like Nolan doesn't apply for jobs. He accepts or declines.

Ok...if a larger school really wanted Nolan don't you think he would have went there in the 6 years he was out of coaching? His lawsuit awarded him 3 mill from the UofA which amounted to approximately 500K per year. I'm sure you're aware larger schools pay much more than 500K to their coaches. The reason he wasn't coaching is because nobody wanted him. He made it clear that he wanted to coach he said he sat around waiting on a school to call him but they never did. Don't make it sound like ASU has to hire him and the baggage that comes with him....there are better coaches. Sure I'm a die hard fan and would love to have the exposure, but after seeing him self-destruct at UofA I have to say that I think we need to go after Dickey from OK State.

can everyone not see what it would mean to asu if they singed nolan. it dont matter if he stays one year two years or six,he would be worth the money. he might be a racict he might be old he might be using asu. who cares. he will bring success and wining to asu. he will recrut memphis and will steal other players that would otherwise go to the uof a and ole miss, tenn. auburn alabama ualr and all places in between. he will fill the stands, he will fill the air with exciment. and he will send asu to the ncaa torn.

randald- 03-07-2008
hey 04 you ask for 2nd best and that is what you get year in and year out. lets get nolan and let him built a geat program, and then we will be like michagan st and other schools like that and we will be a school good coachs will want to come here to stay, not as a stepping stone.

The reason no one was trying to hire him was because he was involved in a lawsuit. I'd much rather have the 17 years of Nolan and what you termed "self-destruction" than your 20 years of Dickie Nutt and Nelson Catalina. How could a person or committee not want a coach who has more wins than your entire athletic dept head coaches? ASU should do what Frank Broyles had the knowledge to do (even if he didn't like it), give Nolan total control and sit back count your $$$.

For those who think if and when Nolan comes it will mean instant success, you are crazy. You can't go from Dickey Nutt's style to Nolan's and have instant success. Nolan didn't have instant success at Arkansas. He was almost fired before he got it turned around. His style has to have his type of players. Alot of people think he will recruit Memphis hard need to remember Nolan didn't recruit Memphis the last 5-6 years at Arkansas. In his peak at Arkansas, he had one assistant that focused on Memphis. He got Todd Day, Corey Beck, Dwight Stewart, etc. That assistant left to take a head job and I don't think Nolan signed another kid out of Memphis. ASU will not take recruits away from the SEC schools. ASU's ceiling is a good mid-major. Like a Butler or Drake. They are not stealing recruits from Indiana, Purdue, Iowa.

I agree Buffballer. Nolan put up with much more racism than he could ever dish out.

What...... nearsports/doh.gif I guess time does heal all.

The only thing we ALL know for sure is this. Right now is the most exciting time ASU Basketball has experienced sine we went to the NCAA Tourney. And its all because NR MIGHT come to ASU. That should be enough to convince any fan of ASU that NR should be the coach.
Anyway, it appears this will come to a head next week. It will be a done deal before the week is over or ASU will go back to being the Annonamous State University Red Wolves. Yawn, what excitement that will bring. nearsports/th_41616-4.gif

Right on Deman! I couldn't have said it any better myself. I know for a fact there has been more talk and excitement in Randolph County than I've ever heard before. One thing for sure, if NR is hired, there will be more money coming into J'Boro, from Randolph County, than even when Julie Hagood played.

Don't be surprised to see Nolan land a pretty good job in the days to come.

Deman- 03-11-2008
I stated in one of my earlier post that I was afraid ASU would screw this up
and it would be like the movie "Ground Hog Day" all over again. This hire was an absolute no brainer. Only idiots could have messed this up! ASU had the opportunity to get a coach that would have brought them national attention and could have laid the foundation to be a top 40 team year in and year out. But no, ASU is too smart and too good to hire Nolan Richardson. I am ashamed to be an ASU graduate. I've grown tired of the simple minds that have diluted the sports program and I'm done with em. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made in my life was to attend ASU. I chose between ASU and Memphis State. What an idiot I was. However, I am not a big enough idiot to continue following and supporting an institution that continues to run their Sports Program into the ground. They don't listen to their fans nor do they exhibit any sign of common sense. I'm sure I'll be bashed over this post....but it really doesn't matter. Cuz you won't see me posting on this board again regarding ASU. I AM DONE WITH ASU. Years and years of paying a High School level coach, watching the program being ran into the ground, and then they let the best coach they could ever hope to land (if you are ASU) get away. ASU is small time and they always will be, they deserve to be, it is what they have chosen. ASU = Annomous State University. GO MEMPHIS TIGERs and SOOOIE PIG... GO HOGS.
