ASU's hiring of NR would be the quickest and smar-*test*-('") move ASU could make to get their basketball program out of the abyss DN put them in. No other hire would be able to recruit players to Jonesboro like NR will be able to. BRING ON ROLLIN NOLAN. Go ASU.

CoachJ- 02-21-2008
If you want long term success, then Nolan is not the guy to hire. Nolan is just a quick fix. I mean how many years could the guy possibly have left? I would love to see 40 minutes of He(( here in Jonesboro, but it doesn't make sense. In my opinion, ASU should go after a young assistant, from one of the higher profile conferences. I young assistant that is hungry for his shot at a head coaching job. There are plenty of good ones in the SEC, Big 12, and even across the bridge in Memphis. I think we jeopardize the future of ASU Basketball even more with a hire like Nolan. This is a crucial time in ASU Basketball history, so hopefully the administration takes their time in making a decision.

At this point in time, ASU needs a "quick fix". Hiring Nolan is a stimulus package that the Convo needs.

At this point in time, an unproven ( and lesser known) assistant hire would do nothing for the program.

I disagree. Richardson will raise attendence, but for what? For probably only the first half of the season. I don't see any coach in America going in to Jonesboro, this off season, and turning out a winning team next year. Banks is gone, their is absolutely no inside presence, and do you actually think the athletes are in place to play 40 minutes of heck? Wedel and Lance may not even get off of the bench if Arkansas State goes to that kind of style. (Wedel has made great strides in his defense, from last year to this year, but he is at best defensively in the half court.) If Richardson was hired and the team started out with a 3-3 record I can guarantee that those stands wouldn't be filled.

They hire a no name assistant and they won't sell any tickets to begin with.

CoachJ- 02-21-2008
If the main goal is to sell tickets the administration should just gather up all the money they can and hire Bob Knight for one year.

Scott- 02-21-2008
It's all about the benjamins. For some, it's a tough pill to swallow. Regardless, Nolan would be a good hire for ASU for reasons other than the almighty dollar.

Well, that was my suggestion when Knight resigned, a week or so before Nutt got canned.

There would still be more fans then are there now. If the convo was only half full that would be what 2000 or 3000 more fans than come now. Looks like a win win to be ROLLIN WITH NOLAN nearsports/clap.gif

NR wouldnt even look twice at playing either one.

CoachJ- 02-21-2008
Rt. 64, I'm sure if you were hired as the head coach you could put more fans in the stands than there are now. I guess I'm just looking at it from a student-athlete point of view. Evans sounds like a good hire, because he is an excellent recruiter.

Let me ask you parents a question. If Nolan was the coach at ASU and he was recruiting your son, would you believe him if he said he would be at ASU for your son's four years?
I think this could be a downfall for Nolan in recruiting. Although showing that big, shiny 1994 Championship ring might be able to sway a few parents. smile.gif

Out of necessity....yes he would have to.

That is probably true.

A young assistant is not the answer. ASU should not think small. Even if they don't go after NR, they should go after a big fish not a minnow. If that is their thinking then they should have just kept DN. You see this same thing with smaller high schools. They hire a young guy for little money, then one of two things happen, they have a couple of good years and another school offers them more money, or they are a bust and by the time they leave, the program is in bad shape, and the cycle starts over again. ASU should not go through that again.
