I think cheerleaders should have to cheer at all games, especially tournament finals. For instance, Poky had no cheerleaders at the WBC finals. Boys and girls both and only 15 min away. I was told they only cheer at home games and against Highland. But if a team goes to the state tourny, they're the first to book the rooms. You cant tell me there isn't 6-8 other girls who would love to cheer at the ballgames. If its a competition, it should be sanctioned by the AAA.

Im sure most of the girls wouldnt mind cheering at more games than they do. It is up to the cheer coaches to deside what games they go to.

Good point...True point.

Personally I think that cheerleading shouldn't be a sport. They already have enought rules and regulations as it is. I am not here to put any cheerleader down. I have a sister who is a cheerleader and she puts alot of more work into it than just the sidelines. If they have a dance they need to be working on you never see her stop practicing until after that dance. She will drive me absolutely crazy. If I din't tell her to shut up she would do it in her sleep for all I know. I mean I'm a basketball player, and a softball player so I know what it's like to be under pressure but when she gets done doing something and she messes up she has a complete hissy fit and won't stop working on it untill she gets it right. So you tell me how many people on here is going to work on something and not leave until they get it right? Better yet I wonder if any of yall even do anything out side of practices that has to do with the sport you play ,without just watching it? So to me i don't think anyone put as much work into anything as much as cheerleaders do.
Way to go cheerleaders! Keep up the good work! Don't let anybody ever convince you cheerleaders don't work hard because i know for a fact that's a lie!!!
Go Rebels!!

Yeah I really doubt that do you know the conditioning that basketball and football players have to go through. Cheerleading comes nowhere near to that.

I think that is a very true post. I know that most cheerleaders work very hard. Atleast just as hard as the other sports.( Not calling cheerleading a sport. I dont want that to start back up.) Most of the post on here are by people that dont know what cheerleaders go through to get in the shape they are in and learn the dances.
redskinfan08- 12-21-2007
cheerleaders do work hard..but everyone has their own opinon..they have a bunch of rules and our cheerleaders have strikes like they cant paint their fringernails and what ever else...each and every kid is dedicated to their sport and works very hard to make them and their team look good..

There was a post made on December 7 related to a cheerleading competition must be sanctioned by AAA for it to be worthy in their own eyes I assume? Even though a competition is a competition, I work for Universal Cheer Staff (yes, I teach ALL of your girls at cheerleading camp summer after summer), and we host Arkansas State Competition every year which is sanctioned by AAA. We just held this event in Jessieville at the beginning of December and had great NEA representation.
Now my cheer opinions since I have kept my mouth shut for so long...
I read posts about cheerleaders cheering from August thru March or whatever everyone is saying these days. Here is a little "low down" on my schedule for those of you who think cheerleading isn't a sport, athletic activity, or whatever. I consider my season "May to May" if you will. I'm about to be in my third season of collegiate cheer.
May: College Cheer Tryouts for a week, Learn ALL Staff Material to teach all of your girls for the summer, Staff Training for a week in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (Not to mention finals)
June: Staff about 6 four-day cheerleading camps plus a few privates, two work weeks for University of Central Arkansas (these are three days of straight practice all day), practice every weekend for All-Star Level 6 Open Nationals
July: Staff relatively about 6 more camps throughout July, Two more Central Arkansas Work Weeks, NCA College Spirit Camp in Dallas, South Padre for ASC Open All-Star Nationals
August: Staff three to four more camps throughout the midsouth, one Central Arkansas work week, game day prep, school begins.
September-December: Work on skills at 4 practices a week (long night practices), cheer at all football and home basketball games, work weekend competitions out of state, and get our three workout hours in every week. Plus school. Oh, Staff Tryouts for UCA Staff.
January: Learn Competition Routine. College competition routine. Much different. Continue to practice like crazy.
February-March: Straight routine skills until we can't get out of bed. Continue normal practice schedules, workouts, appearances, games, etc.
End of March/Beginning of April: While everyone else enjoys Spring Break, we are in the gym for a week, practicing three times a day.
Second week of April: NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach.
After that: Work on skills and recruit for tryouts...and prepare for finals.
End of April/Beginning of May: Tryouts. UCA Staff Pre-Work Week. UCA Staff Work Week.
It starts back over again.
Now will somebody dare say that it's not a sport?
We practice, can barely get out of bed on a daily basis, are more "ripped up" than most of your athletes from other sports...want proof? Come to UCA. We have a competition every year....that is on ESPN. ESPN is a Sports Network. Can we please stop arguing? I wait to post for the most part due to lack of time...one big educated post sounds better. Note the word EDUCATED!

Well the ones that started this thread said they dont want it called a sport because it is a year around event. They are coaches at Arkansas Cheer Company. If you will go back to the start of this thread and read through it all you will see what I am talking about. Me myself I dont care if it is called a sport or not but I do know how hard they work.

If Cheerleading shouldn't be classified as a sport, then what is the need for the physical training and competitions between teams?
I once thought Cheer leading wasn't a sport until my wife was asked to be a cheer leading sponsor at Hoxie. The team she was over had 18 members ranging from 9th to 12th grade girls. Daily workouts with professional trainers which came to the school made for a lot of extra work for the girls who had signed up for the squad. All of this work really paid off, and for once Hoxie had a fantastic team. Jumps, flyers and dance routines made coming to a game even that much more fun. However this quickly came to a halt. Some said this was too hard and all they wanted to do as cheerleaders was dance. Needless to say my wife and myself were disappointed but gave in to the wishes of some. Gone is Hoxie's Fantastic Cheerleaders and we now have a group of girl just standing on the sidelines cheering. No stunts, no dance routines, no sport at all.
Cheer leading done right is most definitely a sport. Anyone who thinks anything different is blind.

Ok, I told myself last year I would never post on this forum again...but here it goes.
Cheerleading isnt and never will be a sport.
Yea, I said it.
Sue me if ya wanna.
I grew up going to ACC with my sister, (I had to, she had to babysit me), and I've watched the stuff that they do there.
No disrespect James, but just about any athlete could do it, or be taught to do it.
Its probably not that hard.
If you have strong arms, legs, and wrists, you can do a back-hand spring.
Its probably not that hard to learn.
Believe me, if Stephen Cook can learn to do it, just about anyone can.
That kid has an attention span of a field mouse.
He is my best friend, so I should know.
Now, as far as the hole "sport" thing goes, if it isnt in just in on particular season, or spread out among different seasons, then its not a sport. Sorry to break it to ya.
So, how bout we burry the hatchet?

OK just to put it out there, I guess anyone could be "taught" to do any sport. Think about it.
Does it take an athlete to hit a baseball? or to run up and down the court? or even to knock a few people down on the field? No it doesn't.
It does not take an athlete to play a sport. But it does take one to excel in a sport.
I will agree that any athlete could be taught to be a cheerleader but not everyone of them could excel at it. Just like any cheerleader could be taught to do other sports. Does not mean they would be good at it.
Btw I have read your other post on the way you correct other people on their spelling and thought ya might want to know it is bury the hatchet not burry.

Then I guess I am a middle aged, over weight athlete. I never considered my self one but you just made me see the light.
Thanx dude.
