No I not full of my self, Im just sure of myself. I know what I can do and what I am capable of. I am a type of person that whatever I do, I wanna be the best at it. So I work hard till I get to where I need to be.

Do you truely believe that the kids you coach work harder than all other kids their age in different sports?

Some do. Depends on what age level you are talking about. I also used to referee soccer and I know that when dealing with younger kids, the attention span is shorter. They dont train to be super athletes at that age. Some do but most dont. They do it just to have fun and to play the sport. Cheerleading at our gym involves discipline. Kids cant just come in expected to play around. They are expected to come in focused on making themself better for cheerleading. Come check out our youth allstar group. Those kids bust there butts trying to get better. If they dont push themself, their parents will because they have a very competitive nature. We have kids doing fulls, layouts, and tucks on that squad. If they dont have it, they are throwing it crashing on the ground trying to learn how to get it. They work hard. Now if they work harder, that cannot be -*test*-('")ed due to it being a different activity. But I will say they work very hard and thats not the only squad that we have that will bust there butts to make themself better and also there team better.

Cheerleading is more that just standing on the side lines. Ill be the first to tell you, I hate sideline cheer. I like the competition part of cheerleading. Putting together routines and competing against other people. Thats where its all at.

Im still trying to figure out why your still trying to argue this topic when it has been clearly stated that you cannot determine who works harder. It is all opinion based.

That is great that you have kids that push themselves to be great at something. The thing is your kids are not the only ones like that. Every sports has kids like that. There are people that take basketball, baseball, football, or what ever sport they are into just as serious as you do yours. My point is you do not work harder. You may have some that work harder than some kids in other sports, but their are kids in other sports that work harder than some of your kids. It is like that in all aspects of life.
To say and I quote "I know we work harder than anyone in any other sport " is just headbonk.gif

My turn.

For 19 years, I was like most of you. Yes I thought cheerleading was a sport, but I didn't think there was very much to it.

I was wrong.

We covered three cheer competitions on NEARsports Radio this year. My eyes were opened. They do things that humans are not meant to do. They work at it constantly and tirelessly so they can have it perfected in time for the highly competitive event.

Football players only go full contact from August two-a-days until the end of the season in November. That's it.

Basketball players start practicing around September and go until February or March. Some play AAU or practice during the summer, but not all.

Cheerleaders don't have an "off-season". 12 months a year, every year until they retire from competing in the sport. Anything less will lead to diminished skills and agility.

Do cheerleaders work harder? Probably not. Do they work as hard? I say yes.

I never said they don't work hard. I know how hard they work. Never said any different. I take offense to the statement that they work harder than everyone else in eveery other sport. doh.gif

Grim you are way off on how much Basketball is played.

A big issue was brought up at the State Coaches meeting about whether or not cheerleading should be considered a sport. We DONT want cheerleading to become a sport! For the best interest of all cheerleaders, it should stay as a spirit group. If it becomes a sport, it wont be a year round ordeal and will also be regulated by more sports officials creating more rules and regulation preventing us from being able to do some of our wild and crazy skills. If it becomes a sport, the cheerleading season would only consist of 3 months. January - March. My opinion on that is "That just isn't enough cheerleading". I know we work harder than anyone in any other sport but this is for the best. Please understand this and not be offended but cheerleading maybe changed to a great extreme if it does become a sport!!!!

Coach KP, it is never wise to make a statement that is impossible to prove doh.gif and that is just what you have done. I will be the first to say that I have gained a greater respect for cheerleading after reading these posts. However, to say that "I know that we work harder than anyone in any other sport" is uprovable, arrogant, and shows a lack of good judgement. headbonk.gif

Arrogant (pronounced /ˈærəgənt/) is an adjective that may refer to having excessive pride in oneself. A person who is arrogant may exaggerate their own worth or importance in an overbearing manner.

AndTheCowSaysMooo- 06-01-2007
It has been said alot in these post but ill say it again. Cheering and all the other sports ( sorry not saying that cheering is a sport ) can not be compared. You cant take just any of the cheerleaders in the ACC all-star squad and put them at the plate at a game and expect them to to do great. Just like you cant take any all-star baseball player and expect them to do great cheering.

Again, Just my thoughts

DownNotOut- 06-01-2007
I agree with that. They still don't work harder. They are capable of giving 100%. That is all you can give. There is no more. Basketball players are capable of giving 100%. I believe Coach has cheerleaders that give that full 100%. I do not doubt that one bit. I also know of other kids in other sports that give 100%. How can one be working harder than the other? They are both running at 100%. To say cheer works harder is saying they are the only people to give 100%.

Well it has also been posted several times after that this, I guess you would say a correction of misunderstanding or miscommunication that there is no way to prove it. I do beleive I said that in earlier post. And......... Once again I have my opinion and everyone else has there opinion. It is all opinion based. There isnt anything that is going to change your view of things. There isnt a right or wrong answer to this.
