I wish arkansas State could get to the pont where it was like most of the colleges than play in the Missouri Valley Conference or the Horizon Conference. I would lke ASU to grab a good coach from the BIG South or Ohio Valley Conference. Arkansas State could be a great basketball school with the right hire. I am nervous as to which type of coach they'll hire.

winning and rebuilding the program will be a tough job.
i would prefer an experienced head coach familiar with the area.

james dickey - arkansas native - sutton asst - 10 yr head coach at texas tech

Ten years ago i would have been for James Dickey as coach but now I am not so sure.

I'll ask you guys this question, I've wondered about it for years. Why is rebuilding and winning so incredibily hard at ASU. I understand it sort of, in football, but its the same for all men's sports at ASU. This is just not a football area, as bad as some folks would like to beleive it is, it ain't. But ASU should finally be able to build some consistency in basketball and baseball, but they haven't.

College basketball has changed over the years and it is just not as attractive as it once was. Smokey, you are right the area right around Jonesboro is not a hot bed for football but the state in general is more of a football state than a basketball one. Parity is common place in basketball. I think it hurts this state not having more JUCCO programs. Football has always been more of the sport at ASU and always will be. That could have changed and might have for a while under the Cat. However, most of the money donated to ASU athletics is because of football. Basketball attendance is around 2,000 per game. What was the football attendance? Other than at non-football high school's, football pays the way for other sport's. ASU will never be able to get the basketball player's that other mid-major school's can get because of location. Arkansas not having JUCCO program's hurts ASU.

In my opinion it would make sense for ASU to go after Jeremy Cox. He is currently an assistant at the University of Kentucky. He was the coach at UAFS when they won the Junior College national championship. He is a tough nose coach and his teams always defended well. After winning the Juco championship, Billy Gillespie hired him as an assistant at Texas A & M. The guy has Arkansas ties and is a winner. He is one of those coaches that want their own Division 1 program. To me this would make tons of sense!!!!
